Finally, after 25 years, I got to meet the man I've admired since age 13. I went
to the show in Melbourne, Florida with three other members of Tony's Troops. The
show was great.
It wasn't even thirty seconds into the first song, before Tony saw us
Troopers sitting in the second row. He was in rare form. Tony said he had the
flu, but you would have never known it from his voice!! He sang Fascinating Rhythm,
then went into his hits.
When Tony started to sing Spanish Harlem, Denise, Dianne and I went up to the
stage with yellow roses - we found them in a store on the way there, the fabric
ones, with yellow ribbons around them. Right before we went up, a lady had taken
Tony some flowers, so when we went up he was so funny, Tony said "What, did
I die? All these flowers today." I don't think we realize how much he
appreciates all the Troopers and his fans. He said "These three are part of
my friends on the internet, who go around the country to see me, and work hard
for me on the internet, and keep my career sustained" It was too sweet!!!
I had never heard Tony sing I Who Have Nothing" and it was awesome.
Well, after the show, we waited a while and were invited backstage. Denise and
Dianne told Tony I was in AC, but had never met him , and had waited 25 years.
He asked my name, and I said Dahloan, like da loan at the bank. Tony was so
sweet. He said 'Like Da-lightful, da-greatest? "We gave him his gift, which
was a shirt, and he went to try it on. He came back out, and was so funny when
he said it. He said "There is no way I'm going to fit into this shirt. I
can't even breath." He decided to let Jon wear it, but said he appreciated
it . My daughter had gotten a cabbage patch doll for Jenny Rose, and he said it
was wonderful, and he would have it overnighted to Jenny Rose. I am so happy.
This is something I had waited 25 years for, and it was well worth the wait!! He
is such a wonderful and sweet man! I am so glad I finally met him. I am very
happy and will be so for a long time!! :-)
