It's Been a Long Time

I was only 12 years old when I heard yellow ribbon for the first time.  From there I was in love.  I followed you all over the place and knew every song that you three sang and some before Dawn. I  had over 100 pictures of you all, but then at 19 I got married and everything was thrown away.  Now through the internet I was able to find one of your CD's.  Of course I bought it. I'm 46 now and I still enjoy you as much as before. I pray that this note find you all well and doing good! Your friend always Dee

Update
I have been asked to join FLOS and I have accepted. Its all been a whirl-wind and I haven't had a chance to get the up-dates out there. I just returned from Spain and will be going to Monte Carlo at the end of this month. I am still very much a part of Tour De 4Force and The Inspirational Voices of FREE and well as the Vincent Sisters. Whew!, now that's what I call multi-tasking.

Old big Lefty's fan from days in MO

Just now found this entry--almost LIVED at Townhouse 79-84 until birth of daughter end of that year.  We danced through several lineup changes; was THRILLED to see them go to Vegas.  They should remember me; I know that they will remember Big Chuck the bouncer and the baby (long-divorced from her father)--my how time flies when you're having fun (remarried and out of MO, thank God).

Message to Tony
Dear Tony Orlando,

You can't imagine how much you changed my life.  Your song Ttie A Yellow Ribbon" was one of the life altering changes for me and my Joe.  He was the type of guy to love and let go, but my favorite song was #1 that year and he hung in there for me to hear my favorite song.  I'm now 52 years old and you and your beautiful music still makes me so happy. Joe became my joy and husband and I hope to see you in concert soon.

Dear Tony, I have been a fan of yours since I was 13 years old and still am at 48. I have all your CDs, albums, and TV episodes, also I have a unique musical statue at home made of ceramic.  I treasure it.  The statue is of a girl standing next to an oak tree and it plays Tie a Yellow Ribbon. I look forward to your next show in Conn. I wish it was sooner. I had the pleasure of meeting you in person in the past. I gave you a home made oil painting. It was such a pleasure to meet you--the nicest person you could ever want to meet. Thank you Tony so much I love you and a very Happy Birthday wish to you.  your fan for life Ken

Birth of a Supergroup
I'd like our fans to know about an upcoming documentary on TOUR De 4FORCE.  Here's the press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 17, 2009

Chicago-based HUSTLEFILMS has launced the first installment of a multi-part online series on TOUR De 4FORCE, titled "BIRTH OF A SUPERGROUP."

In coming weeks, Hustlefilms will present an in-depth look at "the making of" and behind the scenes of TOUR De 4FORCE, as the group prepares to hit the road this summer, following the release of their first single ("Godsend") from their forthcoming CD, "Quiet Moon."

This 5 member group is comprised of Scherrie Payne, Joyce & Pam Vincent, Theresa Davis - all former members of well-known and highly successful singing groups - and Jim Gilstrap, who is considered to be one of the most prolific and successful session singers in the industry.

Tour De 4Force also gathered the support of many other successful and respected artists on the Quiet Moon CD - including former Temptations lead singer, Ali Ollie Woodson.  Woodson's vocals are featured along with the groups on the Gilstrap-penned "Four Walls" and "Heaven Bound," a song originally recorded by Chaka Khan & Rufus under the direction of Quincy Jones.

Buoyed by loyal fans who have followed the careers of these talented performers through the years, TOUR De 4FORCE is already enjoying a favorable response to their formation, as evidenced by the multitude of hits to their music playlist on their Myspace page - over 100,000 in only 3 weeks!

Tony Orlando singing I Am, I Said
Hello,

Are there any videos of Tony Orlando and Dawn in concert?  I have their DVDs of the TV show but no concert DVDs.

Also, I think Tony performed "I Am, I Said" on their last TV show to air in 1975 or 1976 according to your episode guide on this web site.  I remember his performance of this song was amazing.  I hoped it would be on the DVD set but it was not.  Is there any video of this performance or has it appeared on You Tube?  I would like to see this again.

Thanks.

Bobby

Tony Orlando singing I Am, I Said
Bobby,

I think we all had some favorites that were missing off the 3-DVD set from the show.  If there is any video of it floating around, it would be from a bootleg copy, because the show did run for a few years on what was then The Nostalgia Channel and subsequently Good TV.  I don't even know if that station still exists any more.  Tony also sang that song when they toured during the off season.  He did a fine performance then too.

We are part of a new group named Tour De 4Force.  We have just finished an album.  Please listen to snippets of the 6 songs on the group's myspace page. We are trying to decide on the first single release.  We would like all to listen and pick the one that you think should be the first release.  We value your opinions.  We would appreciate it if you would enter this onto the Message Board.  Any feedback is welcome.  Thanks!

Hi Joyce and Pam. What a wonderful group! I listened to the songs on the playlist over and over again.  What a hard choice, to pick the first release single. Every song is so different. My first favorite is: Godsend, Little Things, We Got Love, Yesteryears, Quite Moon and Four Walls. But I think all the songs are totally wonderful. Thanks Joyce, Pam, Scherrie, Theresa and Jim for making music history!! So, since the group is called: Tour De 4Force  when will you tour? LOL . Jim, I did not know that you sang the theme song Good Times! Scherrie thanks for your wonderful music and Theresa you got the best of my love!!  Most important thing is when will the CD be released?
Thanks Again,
John

Hello Pam and Joyce,
Again I must say, "Job Well Done."  After listening to all the songs, my 2 favorites were- We've Got Love and Yesteryear. It's hard to choose which one I like the best; however, if I had to, it would be, We've Got Love. The music really turned me on, and I loved the arrangement.  Call me laid back and old school!! Look forward to hearing your completed CD and meeting you one day.

Have a great day!

The Vincent Sisters are the featured vocalists on a new song.  The song is, You Can't Smile It Away and you can hear it on the Graham Dorsey page on myspace. When the music player loads, scroll down to #6 on the list.  Pam and I are very proud of this work.   We would like you to listen to it and post your thoughts here!

This song is awesome!! Joyce & Pam are wonderful singers. I can not wait for the CD to be released  so I can play the songs in my car. I hope Joyce & Pam will release a CD soon. I always thought that Joyce & Pam should release a full CD of their music, and I know they would be high on the charts, if the CD is promoted right. I always used to hear Tony Orlando on radio talk shows say that  Joyce had the best vocals of the group and I think he is right. I hope this song gets air play. Keep singing Joyce & Pam we want to hear more and more!!

A friend in Charlotte, N.C. asked me to listen to your new song, "Can't Smile It Away."  Oh my God, I absolutely loved the vocals, words and music was just as fantastic.  You have such angelic voices and it was so soothing to my soul...ears too. That horn player, Graham Dorsey is a man of much talent, grace and I give him praise as well.  Looking forward to hearing much more from you beautiful sisters.

Take a thought-provoking title, add some very softly guided instrumentals, then sprinkle in the beautiful vocals of Joyce and Pam. How's that for a song that will have you pondering a cloudy past? Nicely done! Now, where's that box of tissues I had...

Regarding Pam and Joyce's work on this tune, words fail me.

In every sense of the word, I've been convicted by their voices. I had no idea what they were going to do (especially the spoken words by Joyce in the vamp). Warmest regards and peace; Graham

What a great song Joyce and Pam!  Graham Dorsey is an awesome sax player.  I listened to the others songs on the play list and they were great also. My favorite is the Vincent Sisters song.  What wonderful lyrics. Joyce and Pam sing so well together.  I hope Joyce, Pam and Graham will do more songs together, with the Vincent Sisters doing vocals and Graham playing horn they are good together.  I would love to hear the Vincent Sisters do a more upbeat song.  I know that they could sing anything and still sing like there is no tomorrow!!

Joyce and Pam, I love the song!  The song has a little R/B and Jazz.  Pam and Joyce you  have wonderful strong vocals.  I also like the spoken words by Joyce.  I am so glad that Joyce and Pam are still singing and sound better than ever. I bought the Christmas Reunion CD this year on Amazon; what a wonderful treat. I did not know that you all made a Christmas CD until I saw on TV Music Choice and they were playing Christmas In New York.  I went on line and there it was.  I really love the CD.  I really like the song Spirit Of Christmas. Again Joyce and Pam thank you so much for your great music.  P.S. I also want to thank Graham Dorsey for such beautiful music!!

Hi Joyce and Pam. What a wonderful song! Graham Dorsey is unbelievable with his horns! This song really  touches me deeply.  Will this be released into a CD format? Also Joyce, will you remake Easy Evil and Selfish One, You Are The One! I really can hear Graham Dorsey horns on those songs I really think those songs would be on the charts. I think when you recorded Selfish One, You Are The One and Easy Evil those should have received  airplay and they would have been hits.  I am sure of that!! Anyways please consider recording those songs again. Well ladies, Thank you for great music  and keep singing!!

Memories of Long, Long, Ago

To Tony Orlando;
Tony, perhaps you remember touring in 1961 while singing and promoting your latest hit, "Halfway to Paradise."  In 1961 you came to Custer, Michigan and put on a most memorable show.  For me it was especially memorable because, if you can shake your memory, I was the kid you called to come on stage with you.  I was the one that had lost all his hair.  We both joked about it and you told me to let my eyebrows grow long and comb them back.  Anyhow, you gave me your autograph, which I still have, in your autograph you wrote, "To Bob, you're a cool guy, Your Friend, Tony Orlando."  I also still possess an old 45 record of your hit, "Halfway to Paradise."
My hair grew back and I was drafted by the Army, on our side, and went to Viet Nam, returned home and did not hear any new songs from you for several years, until you teamed up with, "Dawn"
You and I were just kids back in 1961 and each time I see you, I honestly feel a bit of pride whenever I tell my friends, "I knew Tony way back when he first started."  I congratulate you on your wonderful career and I'll always be a fan of your.
                  Sincerely,
                             Bob O'Brien

TOAD concert date in 1975 question
Is there anyway I can find out the date of a concert by TOAD in Summer of 1975.  The concert was at the Washington Park horse racing track in the Chicago area.  I recall it being in the mid to late weeks of June, but need to recall the exact date.  Is there a TOAD archivist who might know that piece of real trivia?

I too want to wish Joyce a happy birthday, as well as share a cute little story.  This morning, my mother and I were listening to Christmas music while we ate breakfast.  Of course, "A Christmas Reunion" is in heavy rotation at our household.  This time of year, our canary is pretty quiet, but he suddenly piped up and began to sing along with the album.  Guess what was playing at the time? - Joyce's solo in "Savior's Day"!  So even Sandy-Canary wants to wish Joyce a very happy birthday!

Does anyone know the name of the song Tony Orlando sang to the woman in the audience and then at the end of the song he kissed her?  I want to buy it and hear it again.  Thank you.  Alan

Friar's Club Honors Tony Orlando

It's not the usual way of honoring someone.

A giant yellow ribbon is scheduled to be tied around the Friars Club on Tuesday in honor of songwriter and performer Tony Orlando. The song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree" was a hit for Tony Orlando and Dawn.

Rainy Day Man

Music Choice cable network the 70's has been playing, Rainy Day Man.  I was so surprise to hear them playing that song. Also they been posting new photos of Tony, Joyce and Telma.  I spoke to the 70's programming director they said they will also be playing Selfish One on  the Jazz station and Easy Evil on the R&B station.  They also said they will be playing different songs by them.

Congratulations to Telma on her great new song and the movie as well.

Will Tony and the girls ever get together again to appease their fans?  I know I'm not the only one that would be ecstatic if they did.   I enjoyed them so much when the did "Straight from the Heart" Volume I.  I have the DVD and I understand there is a Volume II but I have yet to find it.  If anyone knows where I can find it I would love to know.
Thanks So Much

Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around The East High Tower
I grew up in Denver, Colorado in the 1970's. That was the best time of my life and I wish that I could live that decade over again. I love most of the music from the 70's by some of my favorite singers like Donna Summer, Chi-Lites, Barry White, Al Green, The Bee Gees, ELO, the Stylistics, Elton John and all disco music.

However, Tony Orlando, Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent-Wilson's greatest hit, "TIE A YELLOW RIBBON" touched me very deeply.  It left such a lasting impression on me that I still listen to it now in 2008.

It was such a popular song during the time I was in my junior and senior years at East Denver High School that some talented music student re-wrote the main chorus of the words to fit the East High tower at my high school.

It was re-named "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around The East High Tower." The music and jingle was the same. It was our way of paying tribute to one of the greatest songs of the 1970's.

What a wonderful story Nay. I still play that song today myself. I am a big Tony Orlando & Dawn fan. I got their Yellow Ribbon Collection that has all of their albums on CD and songs that weren't  on LP. Check out the shows on DVD and the Christmas Reunion CD that was released in 2005, if you haven't already. They are a wonderful group. Thanks for sharing your story.

Tony Orlando and Dawn Fan
I have been a fan of Tony Orlando and Dawn for many years.  I listen to their music all the time. Whenever I am upset or sad I listen and smile.  I forget about the problems in my life.  I have many favorite songs "Tie A Yellow Ribbon," "Knock Three Times," "Carmen," "In The Park," "Look In My Eyes Pretty Woman," "Personality," "Ukelele Man" just to name a few.  I hope to hear of a new CD in the future.  Thanks for the opportunity to share my views.  Sincerely, Joe

Telma Hopkins new song

I just wanted to let everyone know that Telma Hopkins has a new song out! It's called "Lead Me to Your Rock" and it's availible on "The Love Guru" soundtrack on Itunes. I'm listening to the song right now and it's great! She's also in the movie, which comes out June 20th. Keep the good work Telma!

Changeover from Bell to Electra

In 1975, Bell Records in the USA was replaced by Arista Records.  Early that year, Bell's final hit was "Look In My Eyes Pretty Woman" by Tony Orlando and Dawn which peaked at #11.  TOAD's next single "He Don't Love You" was issued on Elektra and shot up to #1.  I wonder if Arista chose not to retain TOAD or if they left Bell/Arista for Elektra on their own.  Arista did issue one last original album by TOAD, "Skybird."  Did that album consist of unreleased leftovers or did TOAD specifically recorded tracks for that album?

Re:  Changeover from Bell to Electra

Tony Orlando & Dawn chose to move from Arista to Elektra. They were not dropped. You will often read that when Clive Davis took over Bell, he dropped all the acts except for Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester, and the Bay City Rollers. That statement refers to the acts left AFTER Tony Orlando & Dawn left for Elektra, the Partridge Family ended and David Cassidy moved to RCA, and the 5th Dimension departed for ABC records. Clive Davis was running the show as of 1974 so all releases on BELL in the 1300 series were under his management. That includes "Prime Time". "Skybird" was indeed a collection of tracks leftover from previous recording sessions including the pre Telma, Joyce, & Pam song "Dance to the Music".

Does Tony Remember Union City NJ?

Back in the late 50s/early 60s Tony lived in Union City, NJ for several years. My family lived in the apartment above him at 706-29th Street (he lived in 2E). I'm sure if he reads this, he'll remember my horrible piano lessons overhead! His grandparents lived next door to us on the 3rd floor. We have memories of when Tony was a hit with "Bless You" ... and all the girls who'd come to our street and yell upstairs for "Toneeeeeee," including the Hicks Sisters, who I went to school with!

I also remember his sister Rhonda and his parents, and seeing Tony often in the hallway or on the porch. He scared me!!! lol! I was just a kid then, now I'm an adult but I and my family and neighborhood friend Dawn F. never have forgotten you, Tony! (but you never knocked three times on our ceiling!!!) Danielle Fry

Tony often mentioned Union City, NJ during his shows in that area.  There is usually someone from the audience from there.  You should show up and give him a shout out on one of his local gigs.

Tony is still "looking good".

I saw Tony on a commercial for a diet plan. He said he is now 62, but he still makes my heart go bumpity-bump. I have been in love with him since the 70's. I have a picture of him and I together when he did a concert at a local casino.  He also autographed by scrapbook I started back in the 70's.  The picture is framed and sets on my wall unit along with family photos. He is really a great guy.

Re:  Tony is still "looking good."

Hi Judy, I have scrapbooks too! My old one has 65 pages and dates from 1972 to 1983, with over 300 pictures. My new one has another 300 mostly pics from the net. I met and hung out with Tony when he was at the Holland Tulip Festival 08 where he looked through my old book and told me some stories of the things in it. He wanted some copies of a few things in it. Then he signed it. He loved it! I also got a kiss on the lips and a lot of grateful hugs. He is still so humble and nice and very grateful for ALL of his fans! It was my 35 year old dream come true.

Good Old Songs

I just ordered the Prime Time CD off of Amazon for a low price. This is one of the TOAD albums I didn't have the first go around in the '70s, so many of the old songs are "new" for me.  I especially like My Love Has No Pride.  And the CD has 7 bonus tracks!  Great listening from a group like no other!

A call to fans
Joyce wanted me to put out a call to all fans, their family members, friends and acquaintances in the LA area to participate in a video shoot.  They will be shooting a gospel video of "Altar Call" a song they recently recorded and mixed.  So if you want to see Joyce and Pam perform, chat with them and generally just hang for the day, here are the details:

The shoot date is Thursday Dec. 27th from 10:00am to 10:00 pm at the Church of Christian Fellowship, located at 2085 So. Hobart St. (1 blk. So. of Washington & 2 blks. East of Western) Los Angeles, CA.  Water, juice, snacks, a meal, and a good time with the Lord will be provided.  All participants should be prepared to be there the entire time and have lots of patience.

Church appropriate clothing should be worn.

Their is no compensation other than the ability to meet with Joyce and Pam and other members of the choir.

El Cajon show on December 13th
California on December 13th.  Both my husband and myself were so delighted to be there to see such a great show.  The whole band, including Santa Claus were great.  Tony is such a showman and he has the most beautiful voice.

We made our room reservation months ahead of time and counted the days until the tickets came on sale. We were much rewarded. Thank You so much Tony, we can't wait for the next show in San Diego.

I did talk to to two of the band members after the show as they were walking through the casino.  I was so shocked to see them that I didn't even ask for a Autograph.  We waited after the show and asked several people if they knew if Tony would be signing autographs and no one knew if he was nor where it would be.  I saw a whole lot of people going up on stage afterwards and think maybe that was the way.  Sometimes my wheelchair keeps me from doing things I want to do.  I do regret not getting an autograph.  I even brought my hardcover book of "Halfway to Paradise" hoping Tony could sign it.

I would be forever grateful if someone could tell me the band member's names and what instrument they each play.

I have been watching for upcoming shows and only see 4 in 2008.  Is this a clue that he is retiring.  He does deserve it but I'm not willing to let go yet!

Thanks,

Sallie

You Can Be More Than You Are
I know it was brought up a few years ago, but does anyone know of a CD or MP3, or any recording still extant, of "You Can Be More Than You Are", which was included with a brochure on vocational training as part of a public service program - I think by the US government, sometime in the early to mid seventies? There was a TV ad that played constantly and a toll free number to order it. Tony Orlando and Dawn sang the song on one side and did a spiel about training on the other. I imagine it is even public domain, in that it was given away.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

Do you think he will ever grow his hair back out long like he had it in the 70-80?  Did he have a perm in his concert in 1978?  It looks it.

Re:  Tony's Hair
I'm sure he prefers to keep with current styles.  I don't know which concert you are referring to from 1978, but he had very wavy and curly hair back then when it was long.  Look at some of the photos from the early 70s on this web site and you will see.

Songs that Tony wrote

In Tony's book, Halfway to Paradise, chapter 30, he talks about a beutiful song he wrote for Papito-"Papito Plays the Trumpet".  Also a song called "Harmonizing Nights".  He also wrote one for Mamita,  "Caribbean Jewel".  Can anyone please tell me where I can find them?  I've looked through all of the Albums and don't see them.

Tony Orlando Meets Bowie

Hi,

Bowie fan here. I've just stumbled over here from Google (where I was looking up some David Bowie info), and spotted your question about when and where DB and Angie were in the audience for a Tony Orlando performance.

The event was the 'Grand Gala du Disque', in Amsterdam, on 15th Feb 1974. The Dutch broadcast company was AVRO, and I believe the whole event was shown on Dutch TV at the time.

Hope this helps, and that you manage to track down that DVD you're after. :)

Check out Pam in Sister 2 Sister Magazine, June 2007

Pick up your June 2007 Sister 2 Sister magazine and see Pam Vincent in the magazine with Aretha Franklin from the 70's singing with two other ladies. Pam photo is on page 37. Pam still looks the same. You can buy this magazine at Walmart by the check outs.

Telma:  Dancing With the Stars
Dancing with the stars showed Telma in the audience clapping after Joey - Jive performance. Telma looked great. Who knows Telma might be dancing next time.  Thanks Pat for the information. If you want to see Telma go to abc.com then go to Dancing with the Stars and then go to Joey - Jive performance. I want to see Joyce and Pam next time in the audience or on the stage.

Re:  Telma:  Dancing With the Stars
YES!  I spotted her too and SQUEED.  (I love DWTS - my guilty pleasure.)  I've heard talk that potential stars do attend tapings to scope out whether they want to do the show themselves in the future - wouldn't it be awesome if our Telma got a chance to cut a rug?

And oh, oldtimers who used to attend tapings of TOAD in the 70's... do you remember how the show's choreographer used to stand just off-camera and "do" the steps so Telma and Joyce could follow along?  A fun and funny memory.

"Make Believe" was released on a compilation CD called "Laguna Tunes" a collection of songs Kenny Laguna was involved with as performer and/or producer. Kenny Laguna sang the Frankie Valli like parts on "Make Believe". The CD is no longer being made, but can be found second hand through ebay or used CD shops.

Tony Orlando & Dawn

The three disc DVD "The Ultimate Collection" is the best thing that ever happened to me, such charisma, talent, variety and just plain fun.  I could go on and on but I'm sure you all feel the same way as I do so, I guess I could say no more, but I can't stop.  I especially love Tony's Dream segments.  It amazes me just how much he can sound exactly like the person he is imitating. Is there anything that Tony can't do?  I don't think so.  The acting ability and humor Telma, Joyce and Tony had and still have, I understand, is so great to watch.  They were a match made in heaven.  I hope to see them together again in the future.

I don't get out much except close by my home, due to illness.  I am hoping they will do a new DVD together.  What entertainers they are.  I feel I have missed so much over the years that it saddens me.  When I was not ill, I could have possibly tried to see them again and maybe again and again.  As my Husband use to say, "You can't cry over milk that's on the floor already".

I lost track of them after the TV Show but always remembered how much I love them.  I have several of their LP's and have just ordered Tony's CD "Halfway to Paradise"  I play the DVD at least every day and sometimes more often.  Such Talent!  I also want to say I am reading Tony's life story in his book "Halfway To Paradise" for the 5th time and I know I will read it many times more.  Such a great book!  It was so poignant and all telling.  It made cry on many occasions, it made me laugh, It made me feel good and it made me feel bad.  Thank You Tony for writing it all down for us to read.  I am so happy I have it.  I will be going to see Tony in December in San Diego County.  I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for letting me talk,
Sallie

Tied 100 Yellow Ribbons

When I was either 4 or 5 years old (1974 or 1975), my mom used to watch the Tony Orlando and Dawn Hour, me too of course. Her husband was away over seas for a while (he was in the navy), and I guess I would hear hear her reading his letters to her friends and sometimes she'd be upset, well I guess he was going to be coming home to retrieve his things because he didn't know the status of their relationship. Well my mom had tied 100 yellow ribbons all along the stairway. They were big yellow ribbons so that everyone could see them especially her husband.  My mom played TOAD's albums all day, and later on that day all I heard was my step dad yelling out my moms name (Grace) and running up the stairs, and there was alot of stairs. I still remember them standing in front of the doorway hugging and kissing.  And the rest is history.

Tony's First Appearances

Seems like yesterday when 17 year old Tony sang "Halfway to Paradise" at the Hillside Theater in Jamaica, NY.  His aunt sat next to me in the audience and later introduced him to me and my friends. My parents owned a nearby restaurant and Tony ate lunch there one day... I can still remember he was wearing a light blue suit...well it was the style then.  The photos have been lost over the years but the memories live on.  Happiness to you always Tony.

I could not be doing the Dreamgirls Dance Project without the immense support of Pam and Joyce Vincent.  We're close to having this record out, although from the looks of things, it will be out in the UK first!  You can keep up with the status on the website.

www.DreamgirlsDanceProject.com

You must see Pam and Joyce with Scherrie debuting her re-issued single of "One Night Only."  You can find it on the DDP website, and it is a link to you tube!

Take care, all.

Hi Rick,
Hope you are doing well.  I really enjoy watching the live performance of Joyce, Pam and Scherrie. I will buy this CD when it comes out. The girls look pretty as always. This music on the Dreamgirls Dance Project sounds awesome. I hope the Dreamgirls Dance Project gets well advertised, because the TOAD Christmas Reunion CD did not and it is an awesome Christmas CD not to be well advertised.  Joyce, Pam and Telma's voices are unbelieveable. I am sure all the TOAD fans will help support this CD. Also I hope it gets radio play and on all cable and satellite stations. I just love those girls. I will help to support them all the way, because I am their dreamboy. (HA HA)

P. S.  I hope they do more live shows.

Las Vegas
Hi, I am new to the website and was browsing through the messages would like to comment on a few, but this one caught my eye because I am thinking about going to see Tony's show in Las Vegas this May.

I was a huge fan growing up and saw the group several times.  I just saw Tony's "Santa and Me" Show in Atlantic City, and actually got to meet him for the first time after the show.  I have been searching to see when he may be appearing in my area again, and am drawn to Las Vegas in May.  Maybe some of the TOAD fans can give me some insight as far as the casinos.  I think he is listed to appear at Suncoast at the end of May and another one in the beginning.  I have only flown twice in my life also, as I read in the comments, but I definitely am ready to fly to see Tony again.  I feel myself ready to go on and on so I better just cut myself off now, we all know he is just a great person.

I plan on filling out the survey and writing about my meeting with Tony.  It has been a month now since I met him, and I am still on my cloud--I plan on staying on it!!

I would also just like to say hi to all the TOAD fans--I know exactly how you feel about the group.  Thank you.

Pat

Re:  Las Vegas
Hello and welcome Debbie.

I've been to the Suncoast to see other performers and it really is very far off the strip.  It's a small, somewhat intimate showroom, with table seating, but I have enjoyed all the shows I've seen there.  Personally, I only stay in the higher end properties in Vegas, so I can't help you with any information about the hotel.  As far as the casinos, they are the same wherever you go.  They all want your money; some more friendly than others.  Vegas lacks many floor services you find in other areas.

The early May dates are down in Laughlin which is a very long drive from Vegas; over 90 minutes.  I enjoy Laughlin as it has a small town atmosphere and you can easily walk from one casino to the next. It's usually warmer than Vegas, so be prepared if you go.  If you get tired of Nevada, you can cross over the Colorado river and instantly be in Arizona.

Re:  DVD TV Movie with Telma
I've seen it many times and it's really good - in a "Lifetime - movie of the week" sort of way :). Telma is very funny in it, as she always is, and I think she and Joan Rivers made a good comedy team. I see it's also listed on Ebay for as little as 55 cents... although you have to add shipping. For fans of Telma's work, I think it's a great addition to your collection.

Joyce and Pam on Dreamgirls project
Hello again -

I've heard about Joyce and Pam's involvement with a project that's kind of related to the Dreamgirls movie. It's an album of dance music - all songs from the Broadway musical and screen versions-that will be released early in 2007.

I've heard some preliminary mixes of tracks featuring Joyce's and Pam's beautiful and creative background harmonies with their good friend Scherrie Payne, formerly of the Supremes.

The Dreamgirls dance project will include some of the "Former Ladies of the Supremes," The Vincents, Merry Clayton, Hodges James and Smith and others.

Noticeably missing are Telma Hopkins (who would have been perfect for this project in my opinion), Freda Payne and a few other dream singers that I could name, but it still should be good.

A Happy belated birthday to Joyce Vincent and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

The Christmas CD
Just another word of thanks to Tony, Telma, Joyce, Pam, Michael Omartian (producer) and Brant Berry for the Christmas CD.  This year as I sort through my Christmas CD collection, of well over 100 CD's, I am drawn to TOAD's "A Christmas Reunion" time and time again - it is my all-time favorite.  The songs are brilliantly arranged and sung and the song-choices reflect the spiritual side of Christmas, which touches my heart.  So much of the Christmas music product these days is all about Santa, presents and "keeping warm with your honey."  It's such a gift (to the fans) to have "A Christmas Reunion" which is perfect in its mix of the secular and the sacred.  Thank you to all involved for creating a classic!

It looks like "Bosom Buddies" is finally making its way to DVD. This is my favorite of Telma's sitcoms - and what an amazing cast with the lovely Ms. Hopkins, Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari, Holland Taylor, Donna Dixon and of course, the late-great Wendie Jo Sperber. What wonderful news. I will have to get a copy of the DVD.  That was one of my favorite shows of Telma's besides the TOAD show.  I love all the things that Telma does.

I hope that TOAD will release a new CD.  I just love to hear Joyce, Telma and Pam singing; they rock. I been playing the Christmas Reunion CD at least once a day the past 365 days. Now I can turn up the volume.  During the other months I had the CD playing at a lower volume so the neighbors won't think I am nuts play Christmas music in the summer time.  Now the whole neighborhood hears the TOAD Christmas Reunion CD. Thank you Brant for the update. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, I looked all through the Episode Guide and could not find the episode when Ed Ames was a guest. I was looking for the date and song(s) sang by Ed Ames.  I know he was a guest on TOAD. Are these correct lyrics "When We All Sang Along"
Not sure I heard every word correctly.  Any good ears in here?  Thanks.  Tony

Something beautiful inside of me is gone
Don't know why or what went wrong
Sky is blue, maybe for you, but not for me
Things ain't like they used to be

CHORUS:
When we all sang along together
Every day outside the back door where we used to play
You, me, the hummingbird, sang a happy song
Those were the days when we got along.

Nighttime dies, the day is born
Happens all the time.
Sun isn't blind and you're not mine
Memories are all I have of you and me alone
You thought of us, you thought of home.

CHORUS

INTERLUDE:
We sang every night and day, hey, hey,
This can't be the end
Let's make up, let's start again.
I know you know there is a better way.

CHORUS

REPEAT CHORUS AND FADE

Hi! I would like to know the title of a song. It starts with a phrase "to be with you", "When I'm alone, I still feel the touch of your lips". The dj said that the title of that song is To Be With You, but when I search for the lyric of the song it's different song and artist.  Can you help me in getting the real title of the song and lyrics.  Thanks a lot.

I attended Tony's concert yesterday (08/16) at Heritage Park in Frankenmuth, Michigan.  I just want to say that Tony was absolutely fabulous.  Tony appears to have lost a lot of weight, especially since I saw him in Connecticut in December of 2005.  It never mattered to me what his size was, but I just want to say that it really looks like he has been taking care of himself.  I think the world of him.

Just a note to say that a gentleman named David has now taken the place of Jim on guitar in the Lefty Brothers' Band.  I will miss Jim!

Also, at the concert yesterday, my mother heard a rumor that Tony is coming to Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.  Also, I heard a rumor at work that Tony was doing an appearance at Soaring Eagle and Resort on August 27 and that it was announced on the radio.  I called Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort during my break time on my cell phone.  Management at Soaring Eagle and Resort said, "Sorry, we do not have Tony coming to the Soaring Eagle and we are looking all the way into November, 2006"...."We really wished we did though."  I do too!

Have a good day!

Interview on 96WHNN - FM
I took my radio to work today in hopes of listening to Tony's interview on 96 WHNN with Johnny and Blondie (08/14 at 8 a.m.).  Tony is coming to Frankenmuth, Michigan for a concert at Heritage Park and did an interview.  After arriving at work, I found out that I had a bad reception.  So, I called my mom and asked her to turn on my radio at home and put the telephone up to the speaker of the radio, so I could hear the interview.  The radio station played Tony's "Make Believe".  Tony talked about his new book entitled, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon".  I still haven't purchased it, but I would like to.  I will be traveling to Frankenmuth on Wednesday to see the concert at 3p.m. at Heritage Park.  I can't wait!!  I am really excited!!

I am sorry I missed Tony on (08/12) on channel WABC in New York City.  I used to listen to that radio channel as a teenager and was thrilled to pick up a channel from New York City.

Happy Anniversary
Hi,

I can't believe that it has been a year since David and I were in Las Vegas.  I had a dream come true finally meeting the wonderful group. I am depressed today.  I wish I could turn back time and do it all over again. I had a wonderful time in Las Vegas, and finally met all the other TOAD fans.  It was also  nice to finally meet Pat who does this site and meeting Charlene, Del, and the R2 Team who put TOAD back together.  Hey Pat, let's play the slot machines and let Mario be our waiter, HA HA.

Pat did you have a great time in Las Vegas last year?  I really enjoyed us eating dinner with Joyce, Pam, Charlene and Joyce and Pam's family.   Also the next day, of course, the main event was to see Tony, Telma, Joyce and Pam sing live for the first time in my life and also the VIP after party. I hope they will do more shows together again. I hope they will get together this year. Meeting Joyce, Pam, Telma and Tony made me feel like I've known them forever.  They are wonderful people and awesome singers.  They sing so well together.

P.S. I got the TOAD blues. I wish I was in Las Vegas and seeing TOAD.  Pat I will meet you at slot machines. If it wasn't for TOAD I would have never been on a airplane, I flew twice last year in July and in August to see TOAD and I would fly again and again to see that wonderful group. I am a true TOAD fan.

Cheer up, cheer up, they say....today's another day...

Thanks for the reminder of what a great time we all had last year at the Bellagio!  Despite being Vegas in July, it was truly a wonderful couple of days.  I forgot about the slot machine luck. That money has long since been spent.

There's nothing keeping you from visiting your friends John.  Get your behind on a plane.  Remember you can always collect on the promised dinner.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, Life goes on...

LOL!!!  John, I forgot about those $2 bills.  I handed out a lot that night at the table! (More than Mario probably got in all his tips combined).  You know, I don't think I got one signed by everyone that night.  What a special memento though.

Hi John,

Just remember these words... "Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened."

You have wonderful memories that many people who weren't there would love to have. Cherish them. Perhaps it won't be the last time you see them. Pam and Joyce are really quite fond of you, you know. ;)

We were big fans of Freddie Prinze and the hit sit-com "Chico and the Man" in the 1970's. It was a decade of big changes. We were fans of Tony Orlando & Dawn's weekly television show also

Collectable Album?

When I was growing up I recall my parents having the Candida album but it was mis-recorded and on the opposite side of knock 3 times was another band. I believe it might have been the Partridge Family. Does anyone have any information on this album? Thank You

Lyrics

Does anyone remember the lyrics to the song Tony Orlando sang, I think it was called Tie Them, about the time of Dessert Storm?
It was about the yellow ribbions but not the oak tree song.
If you do will you please share them with me?
Thanks

Re:  Lyrics

Hi Sheila,
The title of the song is called "With Every Yellow Ribbon" (That's Why We Tie 'Em) recorded wiith Joyce Vincent and Pam Vincent singing background. The song was recorded in 1991. I don't know alot of the lyrics to the song just some.  Maybe you can go to search on Yahoo. What a great song.
Good luck.

Today Show
I enjoyed watching Tony and the band on the Today Show. They sounded awesome and looked great.  I also spotted Del in the crowed; what a great shirt that Del wore for the Fourth of July.  The only thing I was disappointed in was that Joyce, Telma and Pam were not with Tony singing.  It just seemed funny; Tony singing Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree and their other hits without the girls.  Hopefully that they will do more promotional appearances together again.  They are so awesome together.  Their voices blend so well together.  I hope Tony and the girls will release more hit records because the Christmas Reunion CD sound better than ever. I was wondering since Telma's show Half & Half wasn't picked up by the new merged CW network, if Telma, Joyce and Pam will go back into the recording studio and do more Las Vegas shows.  They would be very well received.  I am a BIG TOAD fan. I will support you all the way, and so would other TOAD fans.  So get back in the recording studio. Love you all very much.

Dear Pat,

Were you able to catch Tony and the Lefty Brothers Band on NBC's Today Show on Tuesday, July 4?  I thought that Tony really looked nice, as usual.  I thought that he really put his all into shaking hands in the crowd and signing autographs.  I was happy to see so many young people, who had come out to see Tony.  Both, Frannie and Jenny, were in the crowd.  Frannie is a beautiful woman and Jenny is becoming a very beautiful young woman.  Tony spoke about his new book.  I would like to order a copy.

Hi Arthur, welcome to the site.  I'm afraid that we would need some additional descriptive information to help you out, including an estimate as to the decade, as his career has spanned 5 decades and during that time there have been thousands of images.

YouTube is a wonderful thing!
Inspired by Pat's recent linkage to a vintage TOAD clip found on the wonder that is YouTube, I went poking about myself in search of buried treasures.  And oh, what I found!

First up is this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvR0oxoXH40) of Tony, Telma and Joyce singing (well, lip-synching to) "Knock Three Times."  In net-vernacular... OMG.  Circa 1971, Tony's upper lip is mustache-free, but the ABUNDANT and proudly displayed chest hair makes up for it.  Telma and Joyce swing-and-sway on either side, but at one point Joyce flashes a piece of bling on her hand that I'm sure could be seen from outer space. I have NO IDEA of the setting, but since the crawl mentions the UK, and the group was bigger in Europe at that time than in the US, I wonder if the outdoor setting is somewhere in England.

And next on Flashback Theater, let's travel to 1973 for "Tie a Yellow Ribbon"!  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCmKC1vYXyo)  This features full-mustache, shoulder-length-hair Tony, and there is an easy, almost laconic mood to his delivery that I don't think I've ever seen him express during this song.  Interesting and different.  But what's up with making Telma and Joyce SHARE a microphone?  I mean, how much could another PROP MIC (because, lip-synching, after all) have cost the production budget?  This one is a proto-music video since the performance footage is interspersed with stock shots of bus trips, to give the appropriate, "I'm comin' home, I've done my time" feel to the straight-off-the-album cut being played.

There are a couple other clips on YouTube that I've been able to locate, both of which have been ripped from the variety show DVDs: one of Jerry Lewis's guest appearance, the other of Neil Sedaka performing "Bad Blood" (and that one's on there for the mockery value, alas; then again, Neil does look a bit chicken-danceish in his choreography, God bless 'em).  There may be more and I'm still searching.

BTW, know what I'd kill to see placed on YouTube? - those early "Dawn" (pre Tony's name-above-the-title) lip-synchs from comedian Jonathan Winters' half-hour syndicated variety show.  Does anyone else remember those? I bet Tony, Telma and Joyce themselves don't!  I'm sure it was a day's work - bring several changes of clothing, stand on the set, lip-synch to YET ANOTHER CUT from "Tuneweaving", lather-rinse-repeat until several appearances were in the can, thank you very much and where can we pick up our paycheck?  But those multiple appearances are part of how and where I fell in love with them, back in '73, and it's why I love "Jolie" (Tuneweaving version) to this day.

Happy viewing!

The best road-trip box set EVER!
I took a brief vacation earlier this month, driving from where I live in the "South Bay" of Southern California, to Pahrump, Nevada, to visit a friend.  My beautiful rental car had a CD player, so of course I stocked up on road music. First choice was, of course, "The Yellow Ribbon Collection." As I pulled onto the 405 freeway a couple blocks from home, I popped in Disc 1 and began to sing along with "Candida"... and, hours later, as I pulled into the Best Western parking lot in Pahrump, Tony was finishing up with his post-Dawn solo hits on the "To Be With You" CD.  Perfect timing!

And it really brought me back to those road-trip days to Vegas in the 70's, when we'd pop in our cassettes and/or 8-tracks and sing our way through the Cajon Pass as we sped along I-15.  (Except of course the car-stereo sound wasn't so good then, and gas wasn't $3.00+ a gallon.)

All joking aside, if you have a long trip coming up over summer, I wholeheartedly recommend taking along the box set, and then playing the CDs in order.  The time and miles just sped by, and I think I smiled the whole way. You will too.

Re:  The best road-trip box set EVER!
Robin, your road-trip memories sound just like mine, although we were driving down to Vegas from San Francisco (much longer drive and not over the best roads) with the 8-track blaring all the way.  I still remember portions of 58 where the roadbed had sunk so low in the sand that at high speed you took some air coming off of the top of the rise.  It was a very long rollercoaster ride.  Memories of 2 lane roads at high speeds in the dark and sunrise in the Tehachapi Mountains set to the strains of  TOAD music.

To anyone on the road out there this Memorial Day Weekend, don't forget to pack your TOAD CDs!

Re:  The best road-trip box set EVER!
Hi Pat and Robin.  I like hearing about your road trip stories.  I always have A Tony and Dawn CD in my car at all times.  I still play the Christmas Reunion CD almost every day.  I went to pick up some lunch on Monday, went to the drive thru and had the Christmas CD playing pretty loud.  As I got to the window to pay, the lady said, "I can't believe that you're still listing to Christmas music."  She asked what Christmas song was playing and I told her it was called Spirit Of Christmas.  I played  some of the other songs from that CD and she said she will have to get a copy of the Christmas CD this year.  All of the sudden the car behind me started to blow the horn, so I asked the girl if she was working tomorrow and she said, "Friday.  I will see you then."  I got her the Christmas Reunion CD.  She was so happy. This time I went inside because I didn't want to hold up drive thru. There were some customers in the diner and she showed them the Christmas CD and they did not know that TOAD was back together and made this Christmas Reunion CD. They said that they will go on line to get the Christmas CD and the DVD.  I also told them that all of their albums were now on CD and one of the ladies said that she wanted the CD that had Pick It Up and Dreamboat. I told her the name of the CDs that had what she was looking for. I just love TOAD. They are great people. And again thanks Brant Berry and the R2 team for putting TOAD back together again.  Hope we hear more new tunes in the near future.
Love and Take Care

Re:  TOAD's Christmas -  in May!

Dear Julie,

I live in Michigan and visited Branson, Missouri in November 2004.  I saw Tony's "Santa & Me", while visiting in Branson.  Oh, it was a wonderful vacation.  When you were describing driving in Branson, I felt envious of you.  I also have TOAD's Christmas CD and listen to it often.

Last December, I was able to attend Tony's Christmas Concerts at Toledo, Ohio and in Uncasville Connecticut.  I had just a wonderful time listening to Tony, the Lefty Brothers' Band and Toni Wine perform songs from the Christmas CD.  I have purchased tickets to see Tony and his band in Uncasville, Connecticut at the Mohegun Sun in June.  I am really sad that I am not going to be able to attend because of the flooding. I was so looking forward to enjoying a week full of performances with Tony.

Thank you for posting.  You put some wind in my sails thinking about Branson.

David Bowie and Dawn

Hi

I recently saw on TV some film of Tony Orlando and Dawn singing TAYR, during which Tony asks "Is it you? Is it really you?" and the camera pans round to David and Angie Bowie in the audience. It must have been 73/74 (possibly an awards ceremony?). I've been trying ever since to find out where and when this was recorded and if it's available anywhere on DVD (or tape). I am desperate to find out so if you can help please contact me. Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for letting me know the clip of Bowie and Dawn is on Youtube. I have a clip from TV, but what I'm trying to establish is where and when exactly this event took place. Since it appeared recently on BBC TV I assume the program, or part of it, is still in existence, so I was hoping to try and track it down if it has appeared on DVD somewhere.

"Tie a Yellow Ribbon-While We Are Apart" is in stores now. It is really beautiful. A perfect gift for Mother's/Father's Day or anyone really. For an extra special package, add a copy of "Tuneweaving" with a yellow ribbon tied around the Book and CD.

A Special Event
I just came across a very good program of TOAD's. It is called A Special Event and the program cost $2.00. I believe it is from 1976 from either Hampton, Va. or Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Va.  It is autographed by Tony, Joyce, Telma, James Harbison, Buck Clarke '76, & Win Winfree and says Thanks Tony.....in their handwriting.

Can anyone identify date, location and who is Harbison, Clark and Win Winfree.

Hi Helen and welcome.  The program you mentioned was sold at all of their road shows from 75-77.  It could have been purchased at any venue during that time period.

As for the other autographs, the only one I recognize is that of Buck Clarke who played congas for the group during that time period.  There is a picture of Buck in our Celebrating the Century 70's pages at:  Photo 1 and Photo 2

Going to see Tony in Vegas

My names is Rita & I live in Maui, HI.  In the 90's I interviewed Tony when he was living in California. I went to the opening of his theater in Branson. I was sad to learn that he no longer has it. I am planning to go see Tony in Vegas on May 7th and am hoping I can get back stage at the Suncoast to give him a hug.  Our birthdays are 3 days apart-my was on April 6th. On our 48th birthday, I went backstage to his dressing room and he sang "Happy Birthday" to me. That was a moment I will always cherish.

Midland Theater Concert

My mother and I recently attended Tony's concert on April 8 at the Midland Theater in Newark, Ohio.  We drove nearly two hundred miles one way from Michigan to Ohio. This was a magnificent performance.  I can never hear enough of Tony's stories about his career nor his music.  My mother was surprised at how well the Lefty Brothers Band can sing.  They are good.

I purchased his latest CD entitled, "Orlando & Wine".  I look forward to listening to it for weeks on end, until its time to bring Tony's Christmas CD back out.  Thank you, Tony!  Thank you for everything!

This is an episode I would be interested in having, as well. I remember Tony & Frankie doing a duet on "Two of a Kind" that I absolutely loved! As I recall, this was one of TOAD's best shows.

Jimmy Kimmel Live
Hi Everyone,

Just a quick hello to let everyone know that TOAD will be performing on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on Thursday February 23.  I'm not sure how many markets its shown in, so check your local listings.  I spoke w/John, and he said they don't get this show in his area, so be sure to check.

Also I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas season and a slammin' Valentines Day.  Take care all, and I'll talk to you soon.

Joyce

Re:  Jimmy Kimmel Live
Wow, I am so tired tonight after staying up half the night last night waiting for the show. All in all I thought it was great. Wonderful to see TOAD together, of course. I knew their performance would be broken up since they would be singing with the band throughout the show but what disappointed me more than anything was  - since they knew they only had a minute or two to get a song in, why wouldn't they have started further into the song so the voices of the ladies would get some decent airtime too? The audience members got the whole show but we at home only got bits and pieces so we missed out on a lot of that lovely TOAD sound. But, hopefully each performance together will pave the way for another one and then another and another.. ;)

Re:  Jimmy Kimmel Live
I didn't see them. But I heard them. I don't get Jimmy Kimmel in my area. I asked my friend to call me when  it comes on in their area in CA and they called at 3:00 A.M. in NC. They sounded awesome.  Also I hope they go on Jay Leno and David Letterman and all the other talk shows. Sorry CJ I can't tell you much about the show. All I know is they sang Tie A Yellow Ribbon, Knock Tree Times and Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose, He Don't Love You and  that's all I remember.  I'm sure their are more songs. I went to bed at 4:15 A.M. I was up at 9:45 A.M. I am sleeping in Saturday morning. Thanks to my friend in CA for the phone call last night to hear TOAD.

Re:  Jimmy Kimmel Live
I saw the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show with Tony, Telma & Joyce.  I, too, was disappointed that they were not given more of a chance to sing their songs so that the viewing audience could enjoy them.  When I saw them on stage, it was like wow, you look great! Their performance was wonderful as always.

I will be seeing Tony in concert on April 8 at the Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio.  I am looking forward to a magnificent performance.

Christmas Reunion CD Played All The Time
Hello to Joyce, Telma, Pam and Tony and all the TOAD fans. I am still playing the Christmas Reunion CD every day. I just think it is a wonderful CD. I hope this year that TOAD will release more wonderful music and also they will be on more talk shows and do more advertising for the Christmas Reunion CD. I still have about 7 more Christmas CDs left that I bought during the holidays.  I gave a  Christmas Reunion CD away yesterday at a local restaurant in Charlotte, NC.  I was talking to the waitress about TOAD and she did not know that they reunited and released a Christmas CD and their TV variety shows on DVD.  I will go back next week and give her the DVD and show her some pictures of TOAD and the wonderful people I met on the trips like Brant, John, Nate, Pat, Julie, Charlene, Del and lots more wonderful people. I hope TOAD will do more shows together. And I hope R2 will release more DVDs of their TV shows and more tunes. I just love this wonderful group. I hope too see everyone in the near future.
Love and God Bless Everyone

Re:  Telma Nominated for NAACP Image Award

Woo Hoo! Go Telma!

I don't think I laugh out loud watching any tv show as much as I do when watching Half and Half. The constant bickering and zingers thrown back and forth between "Phyllis" and "Big DiDi" just kill me! SO Funny!

Telma definitely deserves this win!

TOAD

I was cleaning my house the other day and came across some very memorable items of Tony and the girls. It made me go clear back to my early teens and that has been along time ago. I have followed Tony since before I went to Homewood Racetrack in Homewood, Il.  I even got his autograph in Champaign,Il.  He was here for a benefit dance.  Oh, it has brought back so many happy memories.  Good Luck Tony, Telma and Joyce now in everything that you do. May God Bless each of you.

With much love,

Julie R

Happy New Year
to the friends of T-O-A-D!
Wow, what a year is has been. I have been away from the board and have so much to catch up on. Recently I was at one of the theaters here in town and the moment I sat down, out come a familiar song. Yeas it was Tony Orlando and Dawn singing "Knock Three Times" on the ceiling. My heart flutters every time I hear this song. What's so funny is my 20 year old was singing along to the song. I asked her where she heard it and she said that it played in a movie she saw. WOW the younger generation is now becoming familiar with the group. It does my heart good to know that the beautiful music of TOAD is being heard through our children.

I remember when I was younger I used to think that one day I would marry Tony. Oh well you can't have everything.

I got an I-pod for myself and of course TOAD was downloaded - I have to get more on it.

I do hope that the members of this board are doing well and I pray that the success of TOAD grows in 2006.

Lots of love to you,

Renee Bustos

P.S. Joyce, we miss you.

Joyce, I hope you have a wonderful day on your birthday.  Thanks for giving us the gift of being able to listen to your beautiful voice again with your new CD.  I can't stop listening to it.  I'm seeing Tony this weekend at Mohegan Sun.  I wish that Telma and yourself were able to be there.  Maybe someday I'll have the pleasure of seeing all three of you together again.

Re:  Happy Birthday Joyce
Hi Joyce,
Happiest of birthdays to you and thank you for all the wonderful music and memories. We met twice over the years. The first time was in 1974 at the Saratoga state fair in upstate New York. I was working at the fair and TOAD was to perform. Right after your opening act (The New Seekers) left the stage we got one of the worst rainstorms ever and of course your show was rained out. I managed to make my way into the car and sat between you and Telma as Tony stood in the rain signing autographs. My visit with you and Telma made me forget the concert. I felt so honored to share that time with the both of you. I was 14 at the time and you both gave me a memory I will always cherish. The second time was in 1988 at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas (where I now live) and I made my way back stage and got to visit again with both you and Telma. You remembered the experience at Saratoga and that blew my mind. (Telma couldn't recall it) I didn't get to visit with Tony as he already had left.

I must tell you being in show business myself (Las Vegas lounge act) I have met and worked with many celebrities over the years but my most cherished memories have and always will be meeting Tony Orlando and Dawn. The three of you were and are so genuine, honest and caring all I can do is wish you continued success for the future and thank you for being such a great inspiration to me.               With much love and deepest respect, CJ
P.S. The Xmas CD is AWESOME!!!

Sherman Oaks Sun Article

Read about Pat, Terri and Robin in line in Sherman Oaks for the Christmas CD signing!  Raise your brow over whether we really did say those things!  (One pair of quotes is misattributed, IIRC.)  Wonder why the article is more about old-timey fans than Tony, Telma and Joyce!

Hey, you know what they say, any press is good press. ;)

Robin, feeling snarky AND nostalgic

It took a few days for the online version to work at a reasonable speed.  Be forewarned though, it does take a while to load.  The article is on page 6.

Yes, Robin, the quote was misattributed; it was the other way around.  Perhaps it was because we were just talking too fast for her note taking ;).  The article was definitely fan-centric.  I guess the reporter liked us, she really really liked us!  We surely were full of enthusiasm that afternoon.

I notice that The Wind material has been mentioned here. Other than the two tracks on Laguna Tunes and a bootleg of "Tell Him No," have any other Wind tracks turned up? If anyone has information on Wind tracks I'd love to know. Thanks - Mark F.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am making a series of Tony Orlando and Dawn pencil portraits in celebration of the release of their new Christmas CD. The first print of the series is now available and you can find a link to view it at: www.julies-art-studio.com

Thanks,

Re:  Telma Hopkins Portrait Print
Julie, that is absolutely stunning!  What an amazing artistic gift you have.  I look forward to the other two portraits in the series, at which point I will acquire a full set for myself.  What with the vintage poster signed on Sunday, the souvenir photo and placard Pat so kindly got for me, and your artwork, my living space is going to look like it did circa 1976, with all the TOAD memorabilia on the walls. ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

BTW, I can't wait to hear Telma's reaction to seeing that stunning portrait.  Let us know what she has to say.

Re:  Telma Hopkins Portrait Print
Thanks so much Robin. I will let you know when the others are ready. Your living space sounds like fun! I have a huge box that houses my TOAD collection... right now all I have out on display is my newly acquired autographed Christmas CD and my photo album of pics from The Grove. Maybe I ought to consider bringing some more things out and do a little vintage style decorating myself. Could be fun!
