The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| Hi all,
What a great night!! It was so fun. Got see Tony for a second before the show when they were doing press and got a kiss. :) The show was fabulous!!. They sound so great. Brought tears to my eyes several times. Didn't like the setup. The grass area was back behind a pond and a bridge, could hardly see, but it was still a blast! Hung with my friend Robin from the old days..oops, did I say old? LOL! Make sure to watch ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT tomorrow night, Thurs. They interviewed Robin and I and they will have some of the show on. It was just so great!!!! Got to speak with T and Joyce for a minute after, so great to see them again. Well, that's about it, it was just super |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| Well, there ARE words, but
even now - 14 hours later - I'm having trouble stringing them together. The last time I saw Tony Orlando and Dawn perform live was June 1977. Who would have thought that 28 years, 2 months later I'd be dancing to their LIVE music yet again? Wow. I can't quite say that it made me feel like a teenager again, but as I boogied down to their old hits, laughing and singing along, I sure didn't feel almost 50! Like Terri said happened to her, there were a lot of tears-in-my-eyes moments. I started to cry when Tony and the girls segued into "He Don't Love You" - while their anthem is, of course, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon", I think their BEST hit was "He Don't Love You". It still sounded as fresh and lovely as it did 30 years ago (which is, I believe, when it topped the charts). While I heard Tony do it in Vegas about four years ago, I really never thought I'd see it with Telma and Joyce doing their superb, elegant backup vocals again. Hence, the tears. I'll have much more to say later on - typing this at work, on a break - but I did want to say what an awesome evening it was. I met up with Pat again, met John and Julie (and a couple other folks, some I believe from this message board, whose names are blurred in my mind), hung with Terri like in the Olden Days (when she asked me if I still had the same car, for a moment I thought she meant my 1972 YELLOW PINTO that we used to "cruise" in, rather than the Ford Aspire I've had for the past 10 or so years)... and had a golden moment of speaking with Joyce. (Terri got a kiss from Tony; well, I got one from Joyce! <g>) I also said hello to Francine, who I knew quite well back in the day (no bragging, folks, just stating a fact) and just boggled at how grown-up Jenny Rose is becoming. What an evening! More later, including links to a few (not very good) pictures that I took. Robin "From April 6, 1974 to August 31, 2005" Schindler |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| I feel so fortunate to have been able to attend the performance last night of TOAD at The Grove here in Los Angeles. They put on a wonderful show, along with solos from several of the band members. They performed for about 45 minutes, all the oldies plus Led Zepplin and Beatles tunes. For me, the highlight of the evening was being able to meet Tony one-on-one in the corporate offices before the performance and have my photo taken with him. I've been a fan since "day one." Those of us who had the "backstage passes" were able to attend a screening of TOAD's new DVD inside one of The Grove's movie theaters. We heard it will contain either 9 hours or 12 hours of old shows (depending on who made the announcement) and I feel will be well worth purchasing to reminisce back to those days. The segments we saw had "kinda corny" sketches by today's standards (think Laugh-In), but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Great evening! | |

| I am glad I found this board. I was at the concert yesterday quite by accident and I couldn't believe my ears! Tony Orlando and Dawn were back together and sounding even better than before. Their mature voices sound amazing and guys, those ladies are still gorgeous! Don't miss seeing them in concert. | |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| Bummer. I missed this concert, but I'm definitely going to order that DVD! Theirs was a great show and not on that has been played to death on TV over the years. | |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| I will definitely tune into ET tonight to see them. Do you think they might show a clip or two from the show too? I really miss seeing them out there performing and I am hoping this leads to more concerts in other areas. The west coast has had enough, it's time to share the wealth. :) | |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| Thanks for the heads up about ET! It will be great seeing the ladies again since I'm not anywhere near LA for the concert. Maybe that will change in the future? | |

| The segment on ET was great, but the fans above must have been left on the cutting room floor. Too bad. Those are the breaks in the biz. You sound like you had a great time and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your review Robin and seeing some of the pics too. | |

Re: The Reunion Show at The Grove |
| First of all I want to
thank the lovely people I met at the show. Please forgive me if I forgotten
anyone: John, Julie, Pat, Robin, Terry and there was a gentleman who was the
sweetest person who was as excited as me about this show (I am having a
senior moment.) I want to say thank you for the T-shirt as well. I will wear
it everywhere. The show brought so many memories as well as a few tears. I was happy to see Joyce again. She is a sweetheart. I know her in a different way. I know her only as Joyce Vincent, not as JOYCE VINCENT OF DAWN. *********** JOYCE. PLEASE CALL US @ USLS. WE MISS YOU. DON'T BE A STRANGER :) Anyway the show was amazing. I do have to admit that when Joyce did her solo part - I teared up. Now that I am older I enjoy the beauty of music and all that it has to offer. Well enough for now got to get back to work - will write later - AGAIN THANK YOU Renee |

Re: Reunion Show at The Grove |
| Reunion Show at The Grove
(LONG :)) What can I say? I just returned home from a whirlwind trip to Los Angeles, California. The reason for this trip? To attend my very first Tony Orlando and Dawn concert. I watched the Tony Orlando and Dawn show as a child but never had a chance to see them perform live. I thought I would have my chance in 1988 but made the mistake of saying I’d wait until they came closer to my area – which, unfortunately, never happened. So after that I thought I had blown my last chance to ever get to see them together. I never dreamed that there would ever be another chance that the group would reunite again – with all of them now doing their own thing. But never say never… With Brandt Berry having the vision of what it would be like to have the TOAD show on DVD, I now had another chance. TOAD fans everywhere started buzzing about the possibility of appearances to coincide with this release and sure enough, we were not disappointed. First they reunited in Las Vegas at the DVD convention – which, due to certain circumstances, I wasn’t able to attend. Did I do it again? Had I blown my very last chance? I thought I had but soon after that, The Grove was announced. Okay, this was it! I COULD NOT miss this one! This time I was not going to tell myself to wait until they “came closer”. This time I would go to them - no matter what! I couldn’t believe it… it was finally going to happen. Anyway, enough of my story personal story and on to the review! I was originally going to fly into L.A. on the day of the show. Thank God I didn’t. We sat on the plane at the gate for 4 hours with maintenance issues. I arrived in L.A. around 1:30 am instead of the 9:30 pm originally scheduled. Grrrr. If it had been the the day of the show I would’ve been panicked. After all these years, I finally get my chance to see TOAD and I get stuck in Denver, Colorado? Um, no! LOL. Pat met me at the airport and was so sweet about the time issues. We went off to the hotel and went our separate ways to meet up again in the a.m. We did some morning shopping and then met up with John and David who I met for the first time. These are two of the nicest TOAD fans you could meet. David is a wonderful photographer and John is a wonderful TOAD PR person. He never tired of telling everyone we met about the TOAD show and how they should come out to The Grove that night and see them! It was so funny to watch him. We ate lunch and then headed back to the hotel to change for the show. When we arrived at The Grove, we had to check in for our VIP badges. The crew was busily setting up the stage and the backdrop for the red carpet. My excitement grew. I was just moments away from seeing three of the most important people of my childhood – except for my family, of course ;)…. We staked out a spot near the red carpet and waited… it started off very slow… but the time was spent with Pat meeting up with old TOAD fans… I met Terry who made a birthday cake for Tony on his birthday episode of the TOAD show and also Robin who came with yellow scarves that she knitted for the occasion. David was busy happily capturing all the pre-show fun with his digital camera while John was doing more of his TOAD PR. LOL. Many people were just there shopping and were very surprised and excited when John told them that TOAD was appearing there that night. One woman was so excited. She had an appointment elsewhere but said she would go do that and “be back!” It was funny. Finally, the moment came and Tony, Telma and Joyce were walked to the red carpet area. All three looked wonderful! The flashes lit up the entire area. Media and fans alike couldn’t get enough photos of them. Flashes were going off everywhere. It was very exciting. I see now what celebrities go through with everyone yelling their name asking them to look their way. What pressure. But the three of them handled it beautifully. And speaking of beautiful, did I mentioned they all looked wonderful? ;). Telma and Joyce were as beautiful as they were in the 70s and Tony, just as handsome. They hammed it up for the camera and then headed into the theater for the DVD premiere. Tony introduced the DVD and then we all watched it with them. That was very special. Pat and I were separated from David and John before we went in so we ended up down in the very first row. For some reason sitting with your head all the way back to see the screen from there was a little easier when I was a kid…. LOL… but I didn’t care. The entertainment was well worth the sore neck later ;). The audience sang and clapped as if we were really in the show’s audience way back when. It was so much fun. There were several scenes from the summer replacement series shown. Since GoodTV didn’t show those episodes when they aired the show a few years ago I hadn’t seen them since I was a kid. So they were basically new to me since I can’t really remember them. After the DVD was shown it was time for the concert. We took our places in the VIP section, which was on the side of the stage. But it was still pretty close. The venue didn’t really have good seating anywhere. There was a fountain separating the stage from the audience and very little lawn seating. Then the show began. They were introduced by Telma’s co-star on Half and Half, Chico Benymon who we met after the show and took photos with. He even invited us to a taping of Half and Half. which would have been amazing but alas, it was on Friday and we were all heading out that day… Maybe next time. So, back to the show… When Tony, Telma and Joyce came out on stage I realized that my dream was being fulfilled at that very moment. There they were! There I was! They put on a fabulous show, singing many of their hits and even some rock and roll. The band was terrific and the whole show was just packed with singing, dancing, love and laughter…. I came away feeling very happy. Tony had a very moving moment with the audience when he talked about the hurricane victims of the south and how he is a people person and the fact that the water was between us and him and was keeping him from coming out to give us all hugs. He correlated it to the floodwaters in the south and how we need to reach across that water and give all of the victims a “hug” through our donations. It was a very moving moment and I don’t know if there was a dry eye anywhere around me. After the show it was time for the after party for the VIPs. Chico led us into the restaurant and we waited, along with all the other guests for our time with Tony, Telma and Joyce. I met Telma first and was able to give her a print of a drawing that I made for her and Joyce of Lou Effy and Moreen. She happily and excitedly accepted it and was quite stunned by it. She said she would be hanging it up in her dressing room the very next day ;). Very cool! I then talked to Joyce and gave her a print. At first she didn’t realize it was for her but when I explained it was, she was so pleased. LOL. She said she was going “to keep it for-EVER!” ;). Again, very cool!. I later met Pam and had my picture taken with her as well. She was very sweet. I approached Tony several times but he was very busy with others and with family and I didn’t want to interrupt so I didn’t. Maybe next time. Tony, Telma and Joyce then sat down for a photo opportunity and boy did everyone take advantage of it. Again, flashes were going off everywhere. I took a few as did David and Pat. The after party was winding down after that. Telma, who had to work the next day left first. And then Tony departed with his family. Pam and Joyce stayed around for a little longer and finally decided it was getting late enough that they better get going too. David, John, Pat, myself and the other diehard party people then went to get something to eat. We had a great time sitting around and laughing at John’s stories. He has a bunch ;). The next day the plan was to meet Pam and Joyce at a local restaurant for dinner. We met at the Olive Garden where the ladies had something special planned for David. I’ll let him tell you about that though. The dinner was great and we talked so long we closed the place down! We had to leave the restaurant but the fun didn’t stop there. They asked us if we had listened to our Christmas CDs that we received in our goody bags from the after-party yet and we told them that we hadn’t. So we all piled into Pam and Joyce’s van and sat for a long while listening to some of their favorite tunes, some of their commercial jingles and the Christmas album. What a joy that album is going to be! The sampler had 5 songs on it and Joyce said the actual CD will have 14! I can’t even imagine the surprises still left to come after hearing the beautiful songs on the sampler. Their voices are so beautiful today and their harmonies are just as great. Let’s hope the proposed album of new songs comes to fruition because it will be something! After many songs, we said our good-byes with big hugs from Joyce and Pam for everyone. We headed back to the hotels and crashed for the night, but not before our good-byes to the guys. I had just met them while there but by the time I left it was sad to say goodbye. I guess, being fellow TOAD fans, the bond becomes strong quickly. I guess it might’ve had something to do with them being such nice people too. LOL. In the a.m. it was time for Pat and I to say goodbye. We had had such a great time on this trip and will share a lot of fun memories with each other and with John, David, Joyce, Pam and Telma. Now that I’m back home, the realization that my dream of seeing TOAD live has actually come true has hit me. There have been tears of joy since then and I will be holding the memory of that night with me for years and years to come. I hope I have many other opportunities to see them in the future too. Their voices are just too wonderful together not to bring them together often! |

Re: Reunion Show at The Grove |
| It was such a pleasure reading the detailed account of Julie's Los Angeles trip. All the detail was vivid and helpful. It was just like being there. After all of the recent news about Hurricane Katrina and the devastation it brought to so many lives, reading about Julie's trip was very uplifting. The best! I will be sending some correspondence to the Grove in hopes they will book Tony Orlando and Dawn for another appearance. If it happens, that's one I won't miss. | |

Re: Reunion Show at The Grove |

On the Road With TOAD Part 2! What a special event! Despite the challenges of delayed flights and those Murphy’s Law types of travel days, here we were—Julie, John, David, and I, waiting for the exciting events of August 31st. Shortly after arrival at The Grove, we checked out the layout, which wasn’t the greatest in the world for a concert, especially one that relies a great deal upon audience participation. I felt sorry for the non-VIPs there. They would only be able to view the show across the water from quite some distance. We checked in and received our lovely VIP badges. I’m getting use to these things. They used a different TOAD photo this time (which coordinated well with my outfit). I was pleased. J We walked over to the red carpet area and watched them install the backdrop and made helpful backseat driver kinds of comments, helping the installer get it right. A pull here, a tug there, and another zip strip tied. First, it was the Red Carpet event, with arrivals of Tony, Telma and Joyce, followed by Telma’s castmates from Half & Half. There were others too; although I am sorry to say I didn’t have a clue who some of these people were until I met them later. In between arrivals, I met other fans—some part of the “oldtimers club”—Robin and Terri—and some new, forgive me for not remembering all the names, but it was a very busy night of meeting lots of new friends and honestly I could run down a long list of names of people I met and talked to that night, which would serve no purpose but to bore you, so I’ll skip the litany. I’ve been to Red Carpet events before, but not often on the Red Carpet side. This time we were standing behind the press photographers milling about with the other VIPs in a holding area, waiting to be let into the theater for the premiere of the DVD. Just as the stream of celebs started to cross in front of the cameras and were directed into the holding area I felt a tap-tap-tap on my shoulder and was told it was time to head into the theater—talk about being torn! I would have loved to watch the rest of the arrivals, not because I knew who most of these people were, but because of the energy and excitement in the air. Of course I didn’t give it but a moment’s thought until I headed in. After a long afternoon in the heat, I was in serious need of water and I was not the only one. The concession line was long and slow, but we had the opportunity to chat with other VIPs while we patiently waited our turn. Then it was off to Theater #4! Oh my gosh! Where did all these people come from? John and David who went directly into the theater were halfway up in the middle with no seats around them. The only remaining seats were in the front three rows. Well, what the heck, we used to enjoy watching movies like that when we were kids, and it is center front after all! After an intro by Tony, we were all waiting with anticipation to hear the spoken intro again. Ladies and Gentlemen… The opening music combined with sitting so close was a bit of déjà vu. Here I was stepping back in time again. It was like sitting center front at the Riviera or the Sahara-Tahoe or one of the other places I saw them perform regularly—albeit with larger-than-life figures in front of me. Clips from the show that I remembered vividly were flashing before my eyes; songs, skits, outfits, and oh those outfits! Music and laughter brought on more laughter and memories of a time long since past. Was it really 30 years ago? The editing on this 40 minute show was spectacular with skits interspersed throughout a song, drifting from the Summer Replacement Series through the Rainbow Hour. The only thing that changed was the length of Tony’s hair, which made it easy to figure out which year the shows were from. It’s All Right, Abraham, Martin & John, Solitaire along with live versions of their hits—the great clip with Phyllis Diller. Tony’s Shaft and Sinatra impressions—Lou Effy and Moreen; it was all there and more in a dizzying array of color. The theater crowd sang and clapped along; there were occasions of hysterical laughter and thunderous applause. We were having a terrific time on this trip down memory lane. Before the premiere Robin handed me a yellow knitted scarf to use during the live show like a giant yellow ribbon. Back in the day we wouldn’t dream of going to a show without a yellow ribbon to toss up in the air when they were singing their signature song. Robin, you’ll be pleased to know I also used it inside the theater that night and flung it up in the air at the appropriate moment. When the premiere was over we were escorted over to the VIP area which was just to the left of the stage. Hosting duties fell to Telma’s castmate Chico Benymon and Kimberly Caldwell of American Idol fame. Again, we each found a spot in the roped off area. The concert was terrific and it was interesting to hear all the conversations around me. Most of these people had never been to a TOAD show before and everyone was loving it. My section was mostly male and they were absolutely in awe of the ladies. You go girls! They were looking HOT that night and the boys in the crowd noticed and commented. The show was the same order as Vegas, yet we all felt a little disconnected because of the weird set up. Tony made the comment to the audience that he felt separated by the water and he likened it to the tragedy of Hurricane Kristina. On our way to the after party held at La Piazza, an adjacent restaurant, we bumped into Chico, who is such a wonderful person. An absolute dear! He took time to sign autographs and take photos with us and invited us to a taping of Half & Half on Friday. We headed into the party with him. I couldn’t believe the crush of people. The crowd pulsed like a living organism and I was propelled along with the waves of humanity. I felt like a was an infant being born again as I traveled the gauntlet and when I was disgorged onto the patio, I threw my arms in the area and shouted “I’m free!” Of course in Hollywood, no one notices things like that. LOL!!! The floor plan didn’t encourage circulation so I stayed outside in the fresh air on the balcony. As it turns out, that’s were the people I wanted to see were anyway. I sat down at a table in the cool evening air with Telma and Joyce and some of their other friends. We chatted for hours and I made sure they all had their World Tour 2005 T-shirts, which turned out to be a far more popular item than I expected. I ran out of them quickly and have to make some more for others I promised that night. (Don’t worry you guys I haven’t forgotten). It was a blessing to sit down. As the evening went on we met a large cross-section of industry people and ended up with several invitations for tours during our stay in town. What a hospitable group of people! The events of the big day hummed by; the red carpet, the premiere, the concert, the after party, new names, new faces; sometimes occurrences fraught with strange outcomes, sometimes disturbing bumps in the fabric of life, all taken in stride and with strength of conviction and concern for others foremost; yet it did not change a thing. And as the after party came to an end, with the inevitable gate-crashers setting shod feet into our VIP-dom, it was time to move the fun to greener pastures and off to Hollywood we went in our caravan of cars in search of sustenance. In the end it was 4:30 when I crawled into bed and attempted to upload some posts and answer a few emails, but by then the brain wasn’t functioning all that well and all that came out of my fingers was gibberish. After all, not only do some things stay in Vegas, some things stay in LA as well... Thursday, was a day of recovery. We drove around town, enjoying the company of friends, seeing some sights and then headed over the hill to meet with Pam and Joyce for dinner. It was nice to sit back and share a meal with them. We did get a bit carried away with our conversation as we closed the restaurant down and had to leave. As Julie mentioned we all piled into their van to listen to the Christmas CD and that CD led to another and then another. We were there until 12:30 with DJ Pam selecting tunes. Some were theirs, some they did background on, others belonged to friends they met along the way. From TOAD to Gospel to commercial jingles, we listened to them all and loved it all! But all good things must come to an end. I had an early flight in the morning to catch some meetings I had moved to attend this event and Julie was due to fly out in the morning as well. I was thrilled that Julie was able to realize a childhood dream. I wish you all could have seen the artwork she presented to Telma and Joyce and their reaction to it. Telma never let it out of her site and in many of the pictures you can see her still clutching it to her chest. They proudly showed it to their friends and several asked Julie for her business card. Congrats to you Julie and I hope that you hear from some of them. John, you are the Energizer Bunny of PR for TOAD. There wasn't a person left in that town who hadn't heard about that concert from you. You are a tireless and energetic Friend of TOAD! David, what would we ever do without your outstanding photography? You seem to get all the shots we miss. I know you had a wonderful and memorable birthday! Thank you to everyone from R2 Entertainment! It was a fantastic release party. They care so much about the group and it clearly shows. All VIPs were given gift bags, which contained the DVD set, the first two CDs and a sampler of 5 songs from the Christmas album. Brandt was apologetic that the entire CD collection wasn’t included, but there was some delay in production. I saw the mock up for the Christmas CD and it will just blow your mind. There is potential for a limited edition snow globe as well. The packaging is exciting and the photos they took at the shoot a few weeks back are outstanding! Brandt told me about various ideas that they are pitching for the coming months along the lines of personal appearances and talk shows. And yes, they are talking East Coast. They are all very exciting ideas and I hope that we have good news on the subject soon! I would only have one pitch to throw out there to Brandt—how about something in a warmer climate in the winter, say Hawaii? We have Holiday Parades over here too and they are ones you can attend that don’t involve wool clothing, scarves, mittens, and chattering teeth. You will need sunscreen and an aloha shirt though. J |

David and I are very excited that we went to LA to see TOAD. We had a blast
in Vegas, but we had a BIGGER BLAST in LA. The weather was great. David
and I stayed at the ORLANDO hotel. We thought the hotel’s name was perfect
given the reason for the visit. It was on the corner of 3rd St. and Orlando
and close to The Grove and CBS’s Television City studios. David and I both
recommend it. After we checked in, we walked down the road to get a
sandwich and then to The Grove where we saw a large overhead banner
announcing TOAD’s performance on August 31st. This was the last performance
for The Grove’s Summer Music Concert Series. We both became very excited
at this point to see the concert the next day. While viewing the front of
the stage, we were delighted and surprised to see Toni Wine and the band
members setting up for the show. I took the opportunity to speak with
Toni Wine and told her how excited I was to see the show. She remembered me
from Las Vegas, and said she was looking forward to the performance. David and I meet Pat later in the evening. We ate dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory and had a blast talking about old TOAD shows and concerts for at least 2 or 3 hours. Julie’s plane was originally scheduled to arrive at 9:30 p.m. that night, but the plane was delayed. This allowed David and I to continue our visit with Pat at our hotel room. We listened to music and shared photos of TOAD. Pat finally picked Julie up at the airport around 1:00 a.m. The day of the concert David and I took a morning walk through the adjoining neighborhoods of our hotel. We informed everyone we met about the TOAD concert at The Grove and about the release of the DVDs and CDs and about the new Christmas CD. We wanted everyone to know that TOAD was back and actually performing at The Grove that night. Later, we caught up with Pat and Julie. Pat took us to Trader Joe's where we purchased water and snacks to tie us over until lunch. Then, Pat and Julie came to our hotel to get ready for the concert because it was close to The Grove. Charlene also called to say that she wished that she could be there too and told us to have fun. Once we got to The Grove, we rushed to get our VIP badges. Jon Orlando happened to be there. I had a picture taken with him and expressed how excited I was to see TOAD. I also thanked him for allowing us to attend the event. Next, we went to the location of the Red Carpet arrival. There we saw Del and R2 Entertainment staff, such as Brant and John along with their wives. I told Brant how happy I was that he put TOAD back together again. The crowd continued to grow as time grew nearer for the arrival of TOAD. At the Red Carpet, a few celebrities appeared. When TOAD entered on the Red Carpet, the crowd screamed and called out their names while the press continued to take their pictures. After a while, the entire cast from Half & Half also jointed TOAD on the Red Carpet. There was much excitement. It was truly amazing. Then, we all went into Theater #4 to watch a forty minute premier of the soon to be released DVD collection of the TOAD shows. David and I had to quickly find seats because the theater was packed. Pat and Julie came in later and were unable to sit next to us. Before the show, Tony talked about the history of TOAD and thanked everyone for attending. It was truly a treat to see segments of the old TOAD show on a huge theater screen. It was as if we were in the show at that time. We were all singing and clapping. After the DVD premier, the concert began. Tony, Joyce, Telma and Pam looked and sounded awesome. The Grove was packed with people, some were watching from a six story parking deck. The entire cast from Half & Half sat a few rows in front of David and I. The sound was great. Tony got everyone involved with the performance. The show lasted almost one hour. After the show, David and I got pictures taken with Chico from Half & Half. He is a very nice person. We then went to the VIP After Party. It was very crowded but fun. We had our pictures taken with TOAD and also separately with Joyce, Telma and Pam. We also received copies of the DVD collection. Both David and I got our copies signed by TOAD. It was very hard to talk to them because they were very busy with the press. I don’t think they even ate their dinners. I met a lot of very nice people at the VIP room. We didn’t eat dinner either because we were having so much fun. Later than night, we ate at 2:30 A.M. We had a good time talking and laughing. The next day, we planned to go to CBS to get in line for The Price of Right, but we were too tired from festivities of the night before. So maybe next time, Bob. David and I met Joyce, Pam, Pat, and Julie for dinner. We had
a great time. Joyce surprised all of us when She and Pam arrived at the
restaurant singing Happy Birthday to David and presented him with a homemade
birthday cake (David’s birthday was just a few days away). Joyce made the
cake earlier that day. We all shared the cake after we finished our meals.
We ended up closing the restaurant down talking and having fun. We
continued the party outside. There, we listened to the Christmas CD and an
assortment of music inside Joyce and Pam's van. I wish that the night would
have never ended. But soon, they had to go. We all hugged each other and
said we would see each other soon. I really hate goodbyes. We were all
quiet when we went into Pat's car. Then I heard the song “When Will I See
You Again” by the Three Degrees on the radio (the song came out in the early
70s). I told Pat to turn up the volume, and she suggested that we all sing
the song together. So we all did. When we got to our hotel, we took a
couple of pictures in front of the Orlando Hotel sign, then said our
goodbyes. I was very depressed that it ended so quickly, but I was glad
that I saw them in LA. The show was totally different then Las Vegas. |

Christmas in, er, October |
| Back in the day (i.e,
1974-1977 or thereabout), I would have practically sold my soul for a Tony
Orlando and Dawn Christmas album. Just think, I only had to wait some three
decades for my wish to come true, and I didn't have to bargain away my
immortality after all! Herewith find the song list for the upcoming Christmas Album: The Christmas Song Mary's Boy Child Christmas In New York (original) Mistletoe & Wine Light of the Stable Christmastime is Here Savior's Day I Love It When I Hear "White Christmas Mary Did You Know Ave Maria/O Holy Night This Christmas Welcome to Our World The Spirit of Christmas (original) Silent Night |

Re: Christmas in, er, October |
| The songs we heard in Vegas were Christmas in New York, Ave Maria/O Holy Night (Telma & Joyce) and The Christmas Song. I am one who prefers the more traditional Christmas songs, the type we all sing along to, but Christmas in New York is really a catchy song. | |
Julie 08-26-05 8:48 PM |
Re: Christmas in, er, October |
| Amy Grant did Welcome To Our World on her last Christmas CD and it's a beautiful song. I can't wait to hear Tony and Dawn's version! | |

Anticipation.... |
| It's been a little quiet here for the last few days. Is everyone counting the days until Aug. 31 and/or Sept. 13? I know I can't wait...wonderful things are in store for TOAD and us fans in the coming months! | |
Pat 08-24-05 11:02 PM |
Re: Anticipation.... |
| I know many people who are counting the days until 8/31. We're going to have a great couple of days in LA. Personally, I'm swamped trying to clear everything before I go, so it's double duty on my already overbooked schedule this week. I don't want any annoying business crises to impinge on the fun.v | |

CD Track Listings |
| Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had the track listings for the 6 CDs releasing on Sept. 13/05. or possibly a link to someone who does. This is the best news of the year. I can't wait for the DVDs and the CDs. Tony, Joyce and Telma are simply the best. Having the DVDs will return me to my early teens when my family and I would gather every wednesday night to watch TOAD. We never missed a show. I also hope that they include the Engelbert Humperdinck performance from the show. Sept 13th can't come fast enough for me! |

Re: CD Track Listings |
| Hi Pat, Thank you for
taking the time to list all the songs from the upcoming CDs. I was
especially curious why the 2nd LP (What Are You Doing Sunday) wasn't
included in the lineup. Now it makes sense that they combined it with the
"Candida" LP which is fine with me as I always considered them "sister"
albums. My questions concerning the "Skybird" titles and the non LP singles
and B sides were also answered. I am so excited about these releases along
with the DVDs. THEY ARE LONG OVERDUE! In my opinion, Tony Orlando and Dawn
are true performers and I am certain that with these new releases they will
reach a whole new generation of fans and NOBODY deserves it more. Thanx
again Pat. Taking the time was very thoughtful of you. |

Re: CD Track Listings |
| Wow! This is going to be some collection! I haven't heard many of these songs in such a long long time because I only have them on record albums and don't have a turn table anymore. So this will be such a treat to have them all on CDs and at my fingertips at all times! Can't wait! | |
Robin 08-16-05 4:14 PM |
Re: CD Track Listings |
| Wow, I am SO going to be
spending money next month! :) Like many (most) other folks, some of those
songs I haven't heard since the 70s and/or the last time I had access to a
turntable. (Which is how I heard Ragtime Follies within the last year,
"testing" Mom's radio/CD/tape player/record player combo....) I only hope that somehow the original order of the tracks that comprised each album is preserved, despite the way multiple albums have been combined, B-sides added, etc. Pat, do you know if the order you have listed them in, is the order they will be on each CD? If they are not, I suppose I will just have to order them digitally, so they "sound right" (C'mon, you old-timers know what I mean - songs have to segue into each other in the correct order or our brains will explode!) Also, I'm amused that there are two DIFFERENT songs named "Jolie" in the collection. My favorite of the two is the one from "Tuneweaving" - in fact I dug it so much that I once wrote a hopelessly saccharine short story based on it! (I was a teenager. It was really bad. I don't have it anymore.) My Very Understanding Boss (who is letting me take the afternoon of the 31st off, to see TOAD in concert - w00t!) is just going to have to get used to all Tony Orlando and Dawn, all the time, for a few days/weeks/months here in the office. ;) |
|
Pat 08-17-05 7:44 AM |
Re: CD Track Listings |
| As far as I know that is the order of the track listing. | |
Del 08-17-05 7:51 PM |
Re: CD Track Listings |
| The songs that originated on each album are in the original order-from the vinyl sequencing. 8-track and cassette sequence varied. I was told the thought behind the bonus tracks was 1) to keep the Toni Wine-Sharon Grean-Linda November-Jay Siegel backed tracks together, and the Telma-Joyce-Pam backed tracks together 2) get the tracks organized by when recorded and style. "Skybird" was a collection of songs leftover from earlier albums. Using those tracks and the ones from "Dawn featuring Tony Orlando/Tony Orlando & Dawn II" as bonus tracks helped to boost the value of each CD and keep the total amount of money you are laying out down. v | |
Julie 08-21-05 6:56 am |
Re: CD Track Listings |
| Hi Robin, I always noticed that about the two "Jolie" songs too. Of course, I always thought the one that wasn't about Al Jolson should've been called, "Julie" ;) ;). |

More from Joyce |
| I spoke with Joyce tonight
rehashing the events of Vegas. We were laughing all over again.
The first thing she asked was for me to post on the board that she is completely blown away by the responses they are getting 30 years later from all the fans. She is so very excited about all the wonderful things that are and have been happening to them. We talked about all the supportive posts there have been to the board about the Las Vegas show. She just walked in her house from the photo shoot for the Christmas CD. She said that they were there 8 hours between the makeup, wardrobe changes and picture taking. Wow. They were all in coats and in a sleigh with snow all around. They were roasting under the hot lights! I asked if they were at least playing Christmas Music to get them in the mood and yes, they were. She is looking forward the the show at The Grove and hopes to see lots of TOAD fans out there in the audience. |

Re: New CDs |
| The CDs re-release of their music has the same release date of September 13th and the Christmas CD has a release date of October 11th. Both are available for pre-order. I've seen them on amazon.com. | |
