TOAD's public service record

Hi all:

Just wondering if anyone out there has the lyrics to TOAD's public service song You Can Be More Than You Are. It was released on a plastic disc with interviews done by Tony, Telma and Joyce on the flip side. These records come up every now and then on Ebay but I haven't been lucky enough yet to get my hands on one. But I would love to get a sneak preview of the song.

Re:  TOAD's public service record

Sorry this took so long....

YOU CAN BE MORE THAN YOU ARE
written by Elliot Willensky
recorded by Tony Orlando & Dawn

If you find you're wasting time
and there are mountains you can't climb
and everything in life's the same old thing.
Now's the time for you to know
there's a chance for you to grow
and reach the place you've just been imagining.

Cause you can be more than you are.
I said you can be so much more than a star.
You can be more than you believe
more than you've ever dreamed so far.
You can be more than you are.
You can be more than you are.

Just suppose that you had wings
and you could fly above the things-
the same old things in life that keep you down.
Well my friend they're yours to choose
here's a set of wings to use.
Take them now and turn your life around.

Cause you can be more than you are.
I said you can be me so much more than a star.
You can be more than you believe
more than you've ever dreamed so far.
You can be more than you are.

PAM VINCENT DAY September 18-"The Invisible Dawn Member"
There is a very nice, very wonderful and talented lady. She may not be a big star (only because top session singers/musicians don't/didn't come out of the studio long enough to be promoted to stardom. Everyone may not recognize her name. Everyone may not recognize her picture, but everyone recognizes her voice upon hearing it. If you enter her name under artist search on allmusicguide.com or bn.com, a you will see a handful of the countless recordings her voice has graced including Bootsy Collins, Bob Seger, Rory Block, Freda Payne, Aretha Franklin, and every Tony Orlando & Dawn song with Telma and Joyce including pre-recorded tracks for the TV series. The liner notes of the BELL edition of "Tuneweaving" read "Vocal Group Foundation-Pamela Vincent" instead of "Background Vocals."  The foundation of a building is what holds the building up. When you realize just about how many recordings Pam has contributed to, you realize she is a part of the foundation of the whole music business just like a Hal Blaine, a Jackie Ward, a Toni Wine, a Telma Hopkins, a Joyce Vincent, and a Tony Orlando.

If you wonder about Pam's contribution to Tony Orlando & Dawn, consider this well documented story. In 1972, Tony Orlando & Dawn considered disbanding if the next single did not hit BIG. They were presented with a song that was to be the next single. Tony didn't like it. Telma hated it. Joyce wasn't overly excited. Tony tried to no avail to get other male vocalists to record it so he wouldn't have to. When it came time for the recording session, the girls went late. Billy Dee Williams was on TV. Telma and Joyce weren't missing him for this song. Tony was still having doubts about finishing the song. Pam took one listen and said, "Are you crazy? This is going to be your biggest hit. Get in there and get it done!" Pam arranged the classic background parts and recorded them with Telma & Joyce. Tony went in there and laid down the legendary lead vocal. The song was "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree". Things might have been alot different had that record gotten finished as it did-wouldn't they?. There might not have been a Tony Orlando & Dawn Show and more hit records. We might not be watching "Half & Half" today. We might not all be enjoying Tony's shows today as we sure do which means we might not know about a Kerry Cole, a Tracy Cole, a Jim Shelton, a David Orlando, or a drummer named Michael Jackson-would we? Unthinkable! Lets all give a big thanks and very Happy Birthday to Pam Vincent.

For any newcomers, Pam Vincent is Joyce's sister. Pam became "visible" in Dawn during the 1988-1993 Tony Orlando & Dawn tour filling in for Telma when "Family Matters" was filming.

Santa & Me

I was thinking of flying to Branson (from PA) this year to see Santa & Me and was wondering if anyone here has seen it and has any opinion on it.  Would it be worth it for me to fly into Branson, only spend two days there seeing Tony and the Christmas setup at the local theme park and then flying back home?

Jerry Lewis Telethon

Upon watching the 2004 Jerry Lewis Telethon I saw Tony hosting from the New York City part and I want to say he looks as good as he did when I first saw Tony Orlando and Dawn perform at Westbury Music Fair some time ago. I enjoyed their music and talent. Keep up the good work you were great on the telethon and it is a great cause.

Bravo! to all of you.

Concert at the fair
I went last night to the Tony Orlando Concert at the New York State Fair and it was FANTASTIC!!!  He was everything I had remembered and more.  I was so happy and thrilled to hear the music again and his band is incredible.  The whole grounds were rumbling with clapping and singing.  It was past packed, I stayed for both sets.  It was the best I had ever been to.  Thank you so much.
