Re:  New recordings for Telma Hopkins?
I heard through the grapevine that Telma Hopkins is preparing for or in the midst of some recording sessions on the West Coast. But I'm not certain if these sessions are related to the TV series "Half and Half" or if they are solo recordings or with her old friends, Tony Orlando and Joyce Vincent.

Anyway, good luck on these new recordings, Telma and happy belated birthday from all of your friends in Detroit.

Re:  New recordings for Telma Hopkins?
Yes, Telma was in the studio on November 1st and so was Joyce and Pam!  They were reunited to do the background vocals for The Flaming Ember's new CD.  For all you music trivia buffs, Telma, Joyce, and Pam performed the background vocals this group's previous recordings from the 70s.

They recorded 5 songs that evening, four of new material and a remake of Love Won't Let Me Wait.  Jerry Plunk's voice sounds just the same, they say.  And the ladies agreed that they too sounded fabulous with Telma on the high notes, Pam on the middle and Joyce on the low notes.  It was a fun night in the studio and they said it was just like in the old days.

They wowed the producer and the technicians in the studio not only with their voices, but also with their ability to write the background vocals so quickly after listening to the vocal track.

Wow. How awesome for the ladies to be working together again. I wish them the best with the project. And, hey, this way they'll be warmed up and comfortable should they need to go back into the studio for a TOAD Christmas CD ;).

Re:  New recordings for Telma Hopkins (Tony and Dawn)
A Christmas recording by Tony and Dawn. I sure that hope it happens. It would be a personal wish come true for me.

The great thing about Tony, Telma and Joyce (and Pam) is that they try to give their fans what they want. Their recent reunions demonstrate for all, that you can have your differences and even go your separate ways for a while. But Tony and Dawn show that they can put those problems behind them and can get back together and work. That's commendable. It shows that these individuals care about each other and their fans.

TV ON DVD EVENT 10-19-04
"Pure Magic!!!”-Toni Wine

There’s so much to remember. It was all so great. First, the band was incredible. There was almost no stage crew-well there was no stage it was all a hotel meeting room. The band had to set themselves up and they did so with no complaining-they just went to it. I hadn’t set up a band in over 20 years so I was more in the way than a help . Kerry worked his butt off to get the sound together and he worked literally to the moment. There was NO rehearsal time or even time for any advance planning. The request was for 6 hits before the awards ceremony-then maybe more after depending on time. Remember the PBS show is they only time the Lefty Brothers and Telma & Joyce have been together. Toni Wine wasn’t at the PBS show. The band has never done the other hits, and really Tony, Telma, & Joyce haven’t done them in many many years either. Telma & Joyce have never done the rest of the show with the band. So-”what are we going to do?” was a question all day. The band had just enough time to go change and comeback as Telma and Joyce arrived and Tony came in. There was lots of warm hellos and hugs then they all took “stage”.  They all did “Tie a Yellow Ribbon”, “Candida”, “Knock Three Times”, “He Don’t Love You”, and “Sweet Gypsy Rose” as the press cameras went wild. There was a little update on what they’ve all been doing then the formal announcement of “Tony Orlando & Dawn-The Ultimate Prime Time Collection” coming to DVD along with the release of the original albums on CD. Tony emceed the first annual TV on DVD awards-adding that we can certainly look forward to Telma’s involvement as all her shows come to DVD in the years to come. The awards came to a close and Tony motioned to return to the stage. Telma and Joyce got up--sat back down-got back up sat back down-got back up. Remember “What are we going to do”--never got settled as there was no time. Tony started the cue for “Have I Told You Lately”-which he normally dedicates to someone as Kerry sings-in this case would have been Telma & Joyce. BUT-Telma said “Let’s do “Fire & Rain”. They did that on the PBS show. Tony and the band all said-“YES! Let’s do Fire & Rain” so Telma and Joyce took their places. They found a starting point and it ALL just happened from there. Tony started  “Fire & Rain”. Telma & Joyce came in, Toni and the Lefty's came in and the harmonies just came together. “Fire & Rain” segued into Kerry on “Purple Rain”-Kerry Cole & Dawn anyone? Tracy came forward for his awesome as always guitar solo getting a “mmm-mmm HONEY!” from Telma. There was a little “Sugar Sugar” and “Meow-Meow-Meow-Meow”.  Telma and Joyce joined Toni Wine on “Groovy Kind of Love” with lots of “you go girlfriend” making it Toni Wine & Dawn and a little girl group history at the same time. When you talk women of music, it doesn’t get better than that. “Black Pearl” was also done. Kerry, Tracy, Jim, and Michael did “Broken Lady” to everyone else clapping  and cheering them on. The amazing jam session settled into a close with the Beatles medley. They all had such a great time together-all unrehearsed. They left the stage saying “we need to do this more often”. All that was missing was Pam and ALL of you. Brant did explore getting fans in but it just wasn’t possible. I did not want to risk anyone traveling only to find they could not get in. Everyone is very excited about the DVDs and CDS which the plans include a Christmas edition DVD and  all new Christmas CD. Now for those of you that like to keep up on the fashion details , I am not good at describing the fabrics etc but can tell you Telma and Joyce looked absolutely beautiful as did Toni Wine. It was really a thrill to see Telma & Joyce after 17 and 12 years-it was very hard to maintain the professional cool as this was supposed to be work and not let the fan come out. If there are any questions, I’ll do my best. Stay tuned-”the future is bright” -no gypsy needed to tell us so.
Be sure to go see “Santa & Me”, keep watching “Half & Half”, and keep up with Joyce & Pam in the studio.

One very important thing I left out--A message to you all from the ladies-Telma, Joyce, and Pam--"Tell the fans we love them and thank them for being out there. They are the reason we are able to do what we do."

Re:  TV ON DVD EVENT 10-19-04
You know, reading this review it makes me wonder... IF there is a reunion concert, will Tony Telma and Joyce get to do it by themselves?  It seems to me that the Lefty Brother's played too much of a part at this DVD event. It would be a shame if TOAD's beautiful harmonies were drowned out by other background singers. After all, it would be a TOAD reunion and Tony, Telma and Joyce are more than capable of pulling off a concert on their own. Anyway, I'm just hoping that the Lefty's will just be their band should a concert happen.

Save Your Kisses for Me
Dear Tony's friends
Can anyone help? Trying to find if Tony recorded a song titled "Save Your Kisses For Me" ?
Regards
John Holman (for Tony Hiller)

Re:  Save Your Kisses for Me
One of the lead singers of The Brotherhood of Man was a guy by the name of Tony Burrows (Although, since you are speaking for Tony Hiller, who I believe wrote/and or produced the song, you probably already know that.)  I have all the TOAD records - "Save Your Kisses for Me" doesn't appear on any of them...it is possible that TOAD may have recorded it as a B side or performed it in concert.

Can anyone else answer his question?

Re:  Save Your Kisses for Me
No, it's not on a TOAD "B" side.

Re:  Save Your Kisses for Me
Just a note on the song Save Your Kisses for Me for those who are not familiar with it.

It was written by Lee Sheridan, Martin Lee and Tony Hiller. The lead vocals are by Lee Sheridan (Tony Burrows had left Brotherhood of Man by then).

Brotherhood of Man won the Eurovision song contest with this song in 1976, and it has turned out to be the biggest Eurovision winner ever!

Update from Joyce

Joyce and Pam are working with Toti Fuentes on a project.  (Toti was the musical director for TOAD during the reunion tour).  Toti is working with a very talented young lady named Joyce Capachero.  The lady can really sing.  While Joyce was performing at the TV/DVD Award Show, Pam was in the studio to coach the lady on her lead vocals.  Joyce joined them in the studio the next day.

Joyce also wanted me to let all the fans know that she and Pam along with Windy Barnes Farrell have been in the studio writing, producing and singing commercial jingles.  They've come up with some really fabulous things and are very proud of what they have been coming up with.  They have quite a few commercial agents interested in what they  are doing.  The only thing left to do to get the jingles completely ready is to go back into the studio to mix and master and they'll be all set to go.  They are very excited about this project.

Also they are waiting to hear about a date sometime after the first of next year to go to China.  This trip will be sponsored by Windy City Entertainment.  Nothing has been etched in granite yet, but I will keep you posted on that as the info comes to me.

Take A Letter Maria

Did Tony sing Take a Letter Maria?

Re:  Take A Letter Maria

Did he record this song or popularize it?  No.  It was written and recorded by R. B. Greaves.

Fantastic Site
I just wanted to post here about your wonderful site. It is so informative with such up-to-the-minute news on this wonderful group. I didn't know the group was still performing together and here I find out that they are doing a show - tomorrow. Just too bad it won't be televised. I enjoyed the music of Tony Orlando and Dawn so much 'back in the day' and it is so great that even after all these years there is still so much interest in them out there. Just goes to show their music is timeless... Keep up the great work on this site. You are bringing back great memories for alot of people.

Great News!!!

Although it was set up with just a few day's notice, both Telma and Joyce will be performing with Tony at the TV/DVD Video Awards on October 19th!  With the upcoming release of their TV show to DVD I'm hoping this is a precursor of future performances.

Great News--Update

The girls already had their gowns picked out and then Tony called and left a message with Telma that he would be wearing a suit.  When I spoke with Joyce again this morning, she said that she and Telma are now scrambling to come up with other outfits.  EEK!!  I suggested that they still wear what they planned.  After all, we love seeing the ladies in their gowns!

Great News-Further Update
Joyce told me this morning that they will not be wearing gowns tonight, since they were told the event is quite casual.  They will be wearing black sequined pants and top, which she said is still within the TOAD dress mode.
