Label Changing |
| I have been in the process of getting some of the Tony Orlando and Dawn albums in vinyl. I recently bought New Ragtime Follies and The World of Tony Orlando & Dawn. I noticed there was a change in labels from Bell to Arista, and wondered if anyone knows why? Did Bell go under, was it a label buyout, or did they simply change? Trivial, I know, but still I was curious. | |

Re: Label Changing |
| Clive Davis took over Bell in 1974 and changed the name to Arista. Larry Uttal went on to start Private Stock. Bell's main acts were the 5th Dimension, The Partridge Family/David Cassidy, and Tony Orlando & Dawn. The 5th Dimension left for ABC, David Cassidy quit the Partridge Family and left for RCA, while Tony Orlando & Dawn left for Elektra. This left Clive Davis to concentrate on Barry Manilow (& Lady Flash), the Bay City Rollers, and Melissa Manchester. Arista has been referred to as "the house Cassidy and Orlando built". Bell releases in the 1300 series were really Arista managed releases. All Tony Orlando & Dawn Bell albums but "Prime Time" and "Tony Orlando & Dawn II" were reissued with Arista logos and catalog numbers. "Tuneweaving" also had the spine and backcover reworked to reflect the TONY ORLANDO & DAWN billing. Pam's credits were changed from "Vocal Group Foundation" to Background Vocals. The Bell logo has been revived on BMG Heritage reissues of BELL albums. You can read more about Bell at www.bsnpubs.com/bellstory.html | |

The Pittsburgh Show |
| I was lucky enough to be at the Pittsburgh show. I was flipping channels and saw the pledge drive and a notice of the show. I wish there had been more notice of the show I'm sure there would have been a line out the door. It was a great show. I was so pleased to see them perform live. I only remember the TV show from my childhood. The show also prompted me to find this web site. I'm so glad there is a place to go for information. If anyone out there gets a chance to see a performance, you will not be disappointed at all. They are wonderful entertainers and I feel so lucky to have been there. Thanks for coming to my town Tony Orlando and Dawn!!! Come back soon!!! | |

Re: The Pittsburgh Show |
| Hi Carrie and welcome to the group! I am so happy that you found out about the show in time and were able to attend. Sounds like you had an evening you'll never forget. We're all hoping this will lead to more performances together and the chance for many of their fans to be able to see them again or, as is the case for me, to see them for the first time. It will be a dream come true! | |

"Very Nostalgic and a Feeling of Warmth..." |
| I was finally able to
catch up and get feedback about the Pittsburgh show.
The ladies felt they were extremely well received. It was such a pleasant surprise and they could feel the warmth from the audience there. It was a very nostalgic trip for them. Joyce commented that it was so hard to shop at the last minute for gowns for the show. They were running all over the Los Angeles area trying to come up with something. They found dresses that were orange and cranberry bugle beads, close in color but not an exact match. Although it was something they used to do all the time she was so surprised how exhausting it was to do now. Some things fell right into place but others were more difficult to do, more from being out of the habit than anything else. Jet lag, adapting to a 3-hour time difference and trying to sleep in strange beds in hotels were tough things to deal with. The show was sold out by the time they arrived in Pittsburgh. They were told it would not air until September (locally) and March 2004 (nationally). Disappointing, of course, but that may change. We will let you know if they are told about a schedule change. There will be a CD and Video released eventually. They only had an hour rehearsal before the show. At rehearsal they fell back in like they had never stopped doing it. They sang Yellow Ribbon, Candida, Knock Three Times, He Don't Love You, and Sweet Gypsy Rose. Tony did Fire & Rain. I'm sad to say they didn't get to perform a duet. They did several promos and the intros for the other acts. It held a sense of déjà vu for them--that the intervening years had slipped away and nothing had changed. After the show they sat around reminiscing about some of the hilarious things that had happened in the past. An idea was floated by a producer there to do something similar for TV--getting together and chatting unscripted. So who knows… Some other ideas are rolling around and the wheels are turning. David Brokaw mentioned that there may be 2 more things to do. Telma said that she's available through August and if anything come up she's game for doing it. After that her TV taping schedule is 3 weeks on and 1 week off so there are even possibilities then! Although it was a lot of hard work, the overall feeling was that it was good being back in that environment again. |

Gold & Platinum Collection |
| The Platinum & Gold series is a series of hits collections for BMG acts containing 12 songs at a midline price (about 12.99) for the casual fans of the acts who may not want to spring 18.99 for the full hits sets. "Did You Ever Think She'd Get Away from You" is the only song on the Tony Orlando & Dawn edition that is not on "Definitive Collection". | |

Re: Gold & Platinum Collection |
| As you may know the Tony Orlando and Dawn Gold and Platinum collection has been released on June 17 and includes 12 tracks. It is a very nice package with lots of photos and has been remastered and it sounds great. However my real point is that it is being released with the BMGheritage line. I would like it if everyone could email them to request the Tony and Dawn LPs to be released on CD and don't forget to ask for the rare singles, Spark of Love is Kindlin, I Can't Believe How Much I Love You, and It Only Hurts When I Try to Smile. If we ALL do this we could get this out...email them at the following....www.bmgheritage.com | |

It's a Reunion, sort of... |
| Here's the very latest on
the TOAD appearance in Pittsburgh on May 14th. Yes it is true!
They will appear at the "Timeless Music of Your Life" show at the Benedum
Center in Pittsburgh (for info call 412-622-1370). This was all arranged on very short notice by WQED (the TV station). They contacted the ladies directly on May 8th. Negotiations were handled on Friday. Telma and Joyce went shopping for shoes, jewelry, and their outfits all day Saturday courtesy of WQED. (Although, the station wanted matching outfits they couldn't find anything that would work, so they chose something that would blend.) A day of rest on Sunday-Mother's Day and then fittings on Monday. Telma and Joyce flew out this afternoon at 1:50 PM from LAX to Pittsburgh and were at the hotel around 11:00 PM (Pittsburgh time). As of tonight, they still haven't spoken with Tony or have any idea what they are going to sing tomorrow! For those of us who are not in the Pittsburgh area, it will be aired later on other PBS affiliates and there will also be a CD made of the performances. |

Re: Reunion |
| Wow....can't believe it.
This is what we have all been waiting for. Can't wait for the details.
If I had more notice I would have driven up to see the show. We are
counting on friends for all the details. I'm sure they will sing Tie a
Yellow Ribbon. Keep us updated. Thanks David |

Re: Reunion |
| I tried all kinds of
attempts at switching my schedule to get out of work to get to
Pittsburgh-about 6 hours from me. If I had found out even an hour or two
earlier I might have been able to make a tight switch. We have a two day
visit from higher ups this week so getting away (calling out) was not an
option. The killer is I'm off today. Even an attempt to send flowers failed.
Glad it went well for those who went.Hope you said hello to Telma and Joyce
for all of us. I'll catch up with Tony and the band in June. Hopefully there
will be another chance to catch up with Telma and Joyce-sorry I missed you. DEL |

Re: Reunion |
| Wow. This is amazing!
Let's hope that this creates more opportunities for them to perform
together. If so, I'll be the first in line for tickets. :-) Julie |

Re: Reunion |
| Hello Friends of TOAD. Once again this is why this site is so important and why I love it. Even though most of us do not know each other we have a bond, which I know sounds strange, but it is Telma, Joyce and Tony. Just reading and hearing about the reunion brought back a flood of memories for me. I still remember the first show on July 3, 1974, with Rosie Grier and Loretta Swit. I haven't seen this show in that long but I still remember it. Sooo many wonderful memories. I miss the good old days on Wednesday nights and my oreo cookies and TOAD. I had a rough time during this period. One of the only things that got me thru this was TONY ORLANDO AND DAWN. They where there whenever I needed them in a sense. When it got rough, I went up to my room and I could listen to my tapes. It got me through. This is all boring I know but I think we all have our special memories which makes this website so important. I thank all the people who bring us all the Tony and Dawn info and for keeping the music alive. I am grateful to all of you. My only regret was I was unable to get tickets for the show. I was there in spirit as many of us where. I'm not sure if Tony, Telma and Joyce know how much we miss them and love them. As I write this I am looking forward to more Dawn reunions. I am so excited. I have been smiling all day. I was hoping they would do a reunion where they would perform all their hits from Candida thru to Sing live and release a CD or DVD. Maybe that is something in the future. Again, thank you FRIENDS OF TOAD. | |

Telma |
| Just had to post and say I
thoroughly enjoyed hearing Telma sing on Half and Half last week. She and
her co-star sang a rousing rendition of the Streisand/Summer duet, Enough is
Enough. Telma sounded great and held that long note in the tune
beautifully! Let's hope the producers let the two women showcase their
singing talent again. Diane |

Turlock Show |
|
Through a series of coincidences I ended up attending Tony's show in Turlock last month. It was the first time I attended one of his shows. The person I was with has been to many shows over the years and I quickly felt like one of the "in" crowd. Our seats were up front; close enough to see the beads of sweat on his face and close enough to have to duck when those same beads of sweat came flying by. For a man of 59, he certainly is quite agile on the stage. He gives much credit to a recent weight loss of 57 pounds and has plans to lose yet as much. I wish him well. As someone several years his senior, it isn't an easy thing to do once you hit a certain age. I must say I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the show. I didn't expect his voice to sound as warm and resonant as it had many years ago. Quite often I have attended shows of performers who have been on stage as many years as he, but have often been disappointed that the voice didn't sound as quite as good as it had some 20 or 30 years earlier. Not the case here. Is it possible that his voice has improved with age? Although I am not familiar with many of the modern pop songs in the show, other than the DAWN hits, each was presented with such enthusiasm and received by the audience in the same fashion. I was thoroughly entertained and the feeling carried on for several days. My only hope is that someday I will have the opportunity to attend another show with all members of Dawn present on stage. What a treat that would be. |

Dawn |
|
Ok, here is a question for you: If a new Dawn LP comes out what top five <your favorites> songs would you like to have on it? Think hard now.....I am going for the five that have NOT been released on CD. Spark of Love is Kindlin, You're All I Need To Get By, Sing, Sweet On Candy, #5 is hard, but Midnight Love Affair. |
