Tony Orlando & Dawn nominated for induction into Vocal Group Hall of Fame---VOTE
Tony Orlando & Dawn has been nominated for Induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame this year.  You can vote by picking up the March 7 issue of Goldmine or visiting www.vghf.com   You can only vote once, and the deadline is March 15. It is interesting that the ballot in Goldmine actually has separate listings for Tony Orlando & Dawn AND Dawn. You can pick two from the 70s--so if you can get a Goldmine, it might be interesting to see what happens by selecting both.

You can also write in choices for next year's nominees. Again, I am going to suggest here that maybe Tony Orlando & Dawn fans write in a nomination for the Partridge Family -to honor the session singers behind that act, and maybe the Partridge Family fans can vote for Tony Orlando & Dawn. The 5th Dimension has already been inducted so maybe all three of BELL's top acts could get in. VOTE!! There is an awards ceremony and performance!

Wouldn't it be great if Tony and Dawn got this award?  It might even kick off a reunion tour........lets hope all the fans who read this take the time to vote.  Come on TOAD fans we can make it happen.  I would love to see Tony, Telma, Joyce and Pam together again.

Tony Orlando and Dawn Albums
Hello posters.  My name is Dave and I was just wondering where I might be able to get the full Tony Orlando and Dawn catalog.  I know they have the "best of" and things like that and I have all those.  But I want the original albums if there is a way I could get them.  Hey if any of you folks on the site have the albums, especially the Skybird album which came out in 74, Tony's rendition of Personality is enough to knock your head off.  Oh by the way, I'm 28 years old.  My parents listened to this stuff and I love it.  Tie a Yellow Ribbon was my first memory.  Anyway, if any of you have any suggestions let me know.

Re:  Tony Orlando and Dawn Albums
"Candida" was released on CD a few years ago. It is no longer made but possible to find second hand. None of the other original albums has been released on CD yet. You can find records and tape formats thru second hand and cutout dealers. On-line try www.ebay.com and www.gemm.com

Anyone who has the Gameshow Network be sure to check out "Win, Lose or Draw" reruns this week because Tony is a guest. It airs at 7:00pm EST. He draws pretty well under pressure :-).

Closet fans of Tony Orlando & Dawn
If a million people identify themselves as "fans" of Tony Orlando and Dawn, then there must be 20 million closet fans reluctant to admit what this music does to them.  Even during a hectic day, the sound of one of their fond and familiar songs grabs me by the collar and whispers "Stop whatever you're doing right now and enjoy this flashback - Enjoy this flood of coming-of-age memories - Memories of a time before life got so serious."  By the time "the whole damn bus is cheering" I've relived Little League heroics, recess shenanigans, a couple of unrequited schoolyard crushes, stashed Playboys, and a few "Whatever happened tos?"  Come on, there must be millions of folks undiagnosed as susceptible to TOAD-shock.  Undiagnosed because we're still in the closet.    (Real name withheld.)

George (not your real name), the numbers of visitors to the site prove out your theory.  Hundreds of closet fans have sent emails to me as webmaster with their thanks for the memories, but remain in the closet when it comes to posting.

Re:  Tony
I've loved Tony Orlando for years, and when I hear Tie a
Yellow Ribbon, it's just as refreshing now as it was when I first heard it in the early 70's. I'm 71 years old...tells you something don't it..

I'm Not In The Closet
I love this group! I don't care who knows it!  Last week I heard "Home" for the first time in many, many years, and it took me RIGHT back to where I was then, in the '70s, where I lived, how I felt about Tony, dying to know everything about him, and living for that show once a week. The power of song.

Help for other BELL fans-strength in numbers
Sony pictures is currently conducting a vote to decide which of their classic shows to release on DVD. They will release the Top 10 winners. At this time, "The Partridge Family" is one of the choices. How about if the Friends help by going to the site and voting for The Partridge Family as your #1 choice--you vote for 5 pre-selected shows. Then perhaps the PF/DC (Partridge Family/David Cassidy) fans will help the Friends of TOAD request Tony Orlando & Dawn CDs from BMG and DVDs from Sony. Sony does offer "The Carol Burnett Show" on DVD through Columbia House. There are many "shared" fans between the two acts. If everyone works together, the fans of one or the other gets what they want. here's the link: http://www.sonypictures.com/cthe/tv/poll/

Singles
I was wondering if any Dawn fans where out there who have any favorite song recorded by Tony and Dawn that were never released as a single but you think they should have been.  Here's my list of want to be singles,.......Missin That Girl,.....Another Rainy Day In My Life,.....That's The Way A Wallflower Grows,......To Be With You,......Sweet Summer Days Of My Life.  Hope to hear from you.  Thanks David

Re:  Singles
The songs are: Dance To The Music Of Love, Daydream, Come Back Billie Jo, Fancy Meeting You Here Baby, House Of Strangers, When The Party's Over, Tomorrows Got To Be Sunny, When We All Sang Along Together.   David, I think If they made those a single they would have been some Big hits, but I am a big TOAD fan. I am glad there are a lot of big TOAD fans also.

I wish some of their TV shows would be on VHS or DVD that you can buy.  I would love to own all of their shows.  Sony been putting out a lot of TV shows like Good Times and Sanford & Son.  Maybe we all should email Sony or call and tell them we hope they would consider buying the rights to have TOAD on DVD.  There are a lot of fans of TOAD.

Re:  Singles
Hi John you picked a lot of good songs.  I like all of those too.  I am surprised that the record company did not release more of these during 1976-77, but Tony did not really promote some of his own material.  They very rarely sang hits on the show.

It would be nice if Tony and dawn did a reunion concert and perform ALL the hits live for a DVD release.  I think we should email Tony about this.  There is a show on A&E called Live By Request, I think that would be great for them to do.

Re:  Singles
I just want to add a few comments:

During the years they performed together (71-77 and 88-93), the only time I've seen them perform a show which consisted entirely of their own music was when they were the opening act in Vegas for Shecky Greene (September 1973).  Most of the Ragtime Follies album was featured.  I remember they sang, You Say the Sweetest Things, Steppin' Out Gonna Boogie Tonight, Who's in the Strawberry Patch with Sally, Sweet Gypsy Rose, and of course Yellow Ribbon, Knock Three Times and Candida.

In April of last year there were initial conversations regarding getting together for a single reunion show.  Nothing resulted from the initial conversations and, as you well know, Telma is now involved in a successful weekly television series.  There was also an article in the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette on May 31, 2002 which hinted at a TV reunion: "....Lubinsky's success in packaging stars of the past led the manager for Tony Orlando to contact him about producing a "Tony Orlando and Dawn" reunion, which has morphed into talks about an overall reunion of variety show stalwarts. Discussions are under way with Andy Williams, Glen Campbell and others."

As of yet, nothing has materialized.

Re:  Singles
Hi David,
I also talked to Joyce and Pam last year and I ask them if they they plan on doing a reunion.  They said Tony talked to them about doing one a while back, but I haven't heard of anything yet.  I sure do miss seeing them together.  Their voices sound great together. I have a lot of friends come to the house and I play a lot of TOAD records.  They are not big fans like I am, but I've got several of my friends to purchase some of their CDs.  They didn't know they made a lot of hit records.  When I played the records they said, "I did not know they sang these songs," and also said, "I can't believe that I bought a TOAD CD."  I converted them.  David It sounds like you have a lot of their records and collections. Again keep your fingers cross maybe we will see them together again.

Re:  Singles
I had always hoped they would do a reunion show.  With the recent success of Carol Burnett and Mary Tyler Moore show it seem to be a natural.  Even Cher did a tribute show right after Sonny Bono passed away.  When I saw them in Atlantic City they only performed the big hits, Candida, Knock, Ribbon, Gypsy, and He Don't Love You.  It would be great if they did a show and performed all the hits like Skybird, Mornin Beautiful, Sing, Vaya Con Dios., etc.

Tony's Tour Dates
Thanks to this website, today I found out Tony is coming to the Mohegan Sun Cabaret for five nights in March!! His website doesn't even have those dates! Thanks for keeping us all up to date. I am excited beyond belief, as this will be my first time seeing him.

Re:  Tony's Tour Dates
Thanks for the compliments!  We try our best to stay on top of his schedule and post confirmed dates as soon as we have them.

Re:  Tony's Tour Dates
Well, I got my ticket today for the March 21st show at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret room!! It's general admission - if anyone's been there before, I'd appreciate any and all info on the place. Thanks!

Re:  Tony's Tour Dates
The only advice I can give is to arrive very early if you want a good seat.  The last time I was at the Mohegan Sun, people started lining up at 4:00 for a 7:30 show in the Wolf Den.  Some of them were well prepared for the wait and brought camp chairs to sit on during the long wait.
