Witch's Brew
The voodoo lady sold me some charms to get to you
And a green preparation to induce infatuation
To be my Witch's Brew
Witch's brew boil and bubble put a fire in his soul
Witch's brew toil and trouble make him lose your self  control
A snow white chicken feather, a cold black raven's wing
Mix them up in the fire til I get my heart's desire and I get to do my thing
Witch's brew boil and bubble put a fire in his soul
Witch's brew toil and trouble make him lose your self control
I'm practicing black magic and  I know just what do to
From his hair and his picture make a boiling toiling mixture and drink this witch's brew

New Album
On Saturday 10-26-02 I was able to see Tony Orlando in concert at a local casino in Albuquerque, NM.  He sang a couple of new songs and I believe referred to a new album.  Does he have a new album coming out or is it out already?  He sang a wonderful song for our nation--"God's Country".  I would love to get this CD.  His faith in God and country made me love and respect him even more than I already do.

Lisa

Re:  New Album
He's been mentioning the new album on several talk shows of late.  It has not been released and I'm sure that all of us who have been waiting for the CD he was going to release 2 years ago are hoping that this one materializes.

TOAD
Did the original ladies from Dawn go onto other things, or are they all three still together? I hope so.

Re:  TOAD
Marc,

Telma Hopkins went on to a very successful television career and can be seen on a new series Half and Half on UPN.  She can also be seen in reruns from many other sitcoms she starred in.  For a more detailed account of her career following TOAD, please visit the Telma Hopkins page on this site.

Joyce initially performed in nightclubs but eventually took time out from show business to raise her daughter Tracey (who passed away two years ago).   Joyce now sings regularly with her sister Pam as an act, and also backing up various performing artists in the Los Angeles area.  I will shortly be posting photos of a recent performance with Sherrie Payne. Joyce and Pam are regularly involved in the theater in the Los Angeles area and are currently in rehearsals for "Soul Serenade"

Take a Letter Maria
When did TOAD do this song?

What was the name of the album and years of release?

Who released it first, TOAD or R.B.Greaves?

Thanks

Tony and Dawn never recorded Take A Letter Maria.  And I don't even think they ever sang it on their TV show.

Dawn
I still love to listen to the Joyce and Telma duets from the Dawn LPs.  There where a couple great songs, including Joyce on Easy Evil I also like Here Comes the Spring, but my all time favorite is That's the Way a Wallflower Grows.  The 7 Dawn duets showcase an incredible array of vocal talent.  I always hoped to hear Joyce and Telma sing them live, but usually Tony and Dawn did not perform a lot of the album tracks live.  Even the hits. I remember hoping they would perform the hits on the show but they only did a few like Yellow Ribbon and He Don't Love You.  Not that I'm complaining but I remember songs came out like Skybird and You're All I Need to Get By and I never knew until after the fact. I think if they had promoted the singles a little better by performing them on the TV show the songs would have done a lot better.  How were we to know if and when they had a new song out if they didn't tell us.  If you don't hear the songs on the radio you don't know they exist.  Well its water under the bridge. I  love those dawn LPs, unfortunately my record player is broken and I can't play them anymore.  I'm hoping that Arista will release them, maybe like Motown did, 2 on 1 disc.  That would be great.  If you talk to Joyce, please ask about the rumor of an unreleased Tony and Dawn LP from 1977.  I've heard they where recording it when the group disbanded and only "Sing" became the only single.  Thanks for keeping us updated with Tony, Joyce, Telma and Pam.  I have so many memories and wish them all continued success.  P.S.   Does anyone remember that Telma's Birthday is coming up and Joyce's is in December...I think the 14th.  Happy B-day to Both.  David.

How Are Dawn Doing?
I have heard that Tony has a book coming out in November. How are the Dawn girls doing? I have just bought their album with my favorites on it (Knock Three Times and Candida a tie for most favorite) and it was wonderful listening to them. What are Dawn's names, please?

Re:  How Are Dawn Doing?
Dawn was originally comprised of Tony Orlando, Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson.  Later the name of the group was changed to "Dawn featuring Tony Orlando" and then at the time of the TV series changed to "Tony Orlando and Dawn."  The ladies who were Tony's partners in the group were Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson.  Telma is currently on the TV Show "Half and Half" which airs Mondays at 9:30 on UPN and Joyce is currently in rehearsals for a play "Soul Serenade" which will play in Los Angeles.

Tony's book is already in stores.  It was released in the beginning of October.

Joyce and Pam Back in the Studio!

Joyce took the time out of her very busy schedule to update me with the latest and I've been busy myself but tonight am catching up on the posts which have accumulated over the past 2 days.

Joyce and Pam been very busy getting down to the wire with "Make Mine 3-6-9" and then will be back in rehearsals for Soul Serenade.

They have been asked to record "Walk On By" (the Dionne Warwick hit) and "Daydreaming" (the Aretha Franklin hit) by an up and coming artist and are very excited to be getting back into the studio.  Watch for more details here!

She also has given us the word on "Witches Brew."  Yes, she did record the title song track for the move, but surprisingly she has never heard the recorded version.  She confirmed that it has never been released.

She especially wanted to thank all of the fans for the recent flurry of interest and especially the posts on the board.

Tony Went the Extra Mile

I purchased 3-tickets to see Tony's concert in Osceola, Iowa on October 19th, 2002, to take my little sister-in-law and her friend.  My sister-in-law is 37/yrs old with severe Downs Syndrome.  She has been obsessed and madly in love with Tony Orlando since the age of 6-yrs old.  She is such a beautiful, sweet and precious lady.  Last night not only did Tony make gestures to her through-out the concert, but called her up to him to receive a hug and kiss after the show.  Leaving the stage, only to return with a copy of his book, he motioned for her to come to him again, and signed it, "With all my love to Julie, from Tony Orlando, then dated it.

She cried with joy and happiness.  On the way home she said, "This is the happiest day of my life!"  When my mother-in-law asked if she could look at her book, after she had gone to bed, she said, "No, I'm going to sleep with it and dream of Tony Orlando and the wonderful kind man he is!"

Then when Tony did the tribute to the military men in the audience, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

What an "extremely talented and gifted" man he is, not to be out done by his humanitarian, compassionate ways.

My sister-in-law has made a Tony Orlando convert out of me.  I would go to great lengths to see him again.  He is one of a kind!

Tour

Does Tony Orlando plan to perform in San Diego or vicinity in the near future i.e. like the next 6 months?

Tony continually adds shows onto his tour schedule.  He was just in your area on the 17th at the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon.

Tony on KFRC San Francisco

Thanks for posting this info on this interview on the Tour Page!  I think this was one of the best interviews he has done over the past few days.  It was great to hear him talk about different things, rather than the same old stories he's been repeating in other interviews about his book. It was sweet that he even congratulated our San Francisco Giants and kind of humorous that he asked anyone who knows Dusty Baker to give him a big hug!  I only hope when I rush up to him at the World Series to deliver the hug that security doesn't take me out :)  LOL!  KFRC continued to play his version of announcing the call letters over and over this morning!

I am also a big TOAD fan have all of their records. Did you hear the B-side of Vaya Con Dios? I Can't Believe How Much I Love You.  It's different than the Tuneweaving album. I also like the flip side Sweet Gypsy Rose, Spark Of Love, I like just as much as  Sweet Gypsy Rose. I glad there are fans of TOAD like me.

Pictures of Tony and Dawn from the reunion tour in the 80s
Just got to see the photos of Tony and Dawn from the 1988 reunion tour.  It brought back memories..I was sitting in the 5th row at Trumps Plaza and got to hear them live.  I will never forget.  Thanks for the photos.  David

Re:  Pictures of Tony and Dawn from the reunion tour in the 80s
Thanks David. The pictures from the Alameda County Fair were taken the two days before the Pat Sajak show you mentioned earlier.  I took around 125 photos during those 4 shows.  The last show of the stint there, they had to rehearse "Moondance" (the song they sang on the Sajak show) because they had never sung it before and needed as much rehearsal as they could get.  It was great! The audience was belting it out right along with them to help.  They had to pull out the music and read it as they were singing.  There was a bit of fumbling over the words and a couple of humorous goofs, but it was all with such a genial atmosphere and a lot of laughter that I can remember it vividly enough that sometimes I find myself humming it...and I'm not thinking about Van Morrison's version either.

Re: Reunion Tour
Hello again.  After I get off I always remember something.  First, I wanted to know if you would consider selling me a photo of Tony, Joyce and Telma.  I took a few at Trump's but my camera didn't work right and they came out terrible.  I miss these guys together.  Also, FYI the songs they performed in Atlantic City were, Somewhere Out There, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, The Way You Do the Things You Do, Back in the Highlife, Lean on Me, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, Candida, Knock Three times, Gypsy Rose, True Love, Motown Medley, Where Did Our Love Go, Stop in the Name of Love, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I'll Be There, <Joyce> The Motown Song, He Don't Love You, Until You Come Back to Me.  I thought that a reunion live CD was supposed to come out, but it never did.  I didn't know that sang Moondance.  Does anyone have a copy of the Pat Sajak show?  I know later they sang "That's What Friends Are For."  I saw it at the end of a Jerry Lewis Telethon.  If you talk to Tony or the girls please tell them how much we miss them and would like to hear them.  Maybe Tony could get out a CD from the reunion tour.  Thank you.  David

Re:  Reunion Tour
David, if I had the time to catalogue and sell the thousands of pictures I have taken of them as a group from the '70s through '93 when they last performed together, I could probably retire on the profits.  But as of yet, I haven't decided to do that.  I never heard anything about a reunion live CD being made at that time, but I'll check to see if anyone remembers.  I frequently let them know how much they are missed as a group and how often people ask about a Reunion II tour.

Tony's Book
Does anybody out there know of any possible way I could get an autographed copy of "Halfway to Paradise"?  My sister has always been a HUGE Tony fan, and she was diagnosed with advanced cancer earlier this summer.  She is eagerly looking forward to reading his book, and an autographed copy would blow her away.  Any ideas, other than going to LA or Philly?  THANKS!

Re:  Tony's Book
You could always attend one of his shows.  He is pretty good about meeting with fans afterwards and signing things.

Witch's Brew
Wow, another memory-trigger for us "oldtimers" here.  Back a LOOOOONG time ago I saw Joyce perform a cabaret-style solo show (1978 maybe? Terri, you were there - can you confirm?).  IIRC, she closed the show with "Witch's Brew".  It was an up-tempo, disco-style number that I can still hum bits of.  The start of the chorus went something like "Witch's brew, toil and trouble...."  And that's as far as I can get!  I always wondered what happened to that movie....

That same show had Joyce doing a tribute to Josephine Baker, for which she donned a belt of light-up bananas.  (Don't ask.  <g>)  Wow, what memories!

I just got the word from Joyce regarding this question.  She said they wish they were recording a soundtrack; that would be wonderful!  She also added that if anyone wanted them to record a soundtrack to please let them know!  They are indeed interested in doing something like that. So if anyone is interested in contacting them about this type of work, just email us here!

I remember seeing Joyce on Dinah and Merv.  She sang a song called "Witches Brew".  I'm not sure if it was released.  Can you tell me?  I thought Telma and Joyce had solo LPs planned.  Come to think of it I remember Telma on John Davidson sing "I Feel For You."  Love this page!!!!!!!!!  You did a great job.  I wish I had a scanner I would send all the photos of Tony and Dawn that I saved.  Did Runaway chart on the AC charts...it is not listed...Thanks David.

Can anyone tell me when Midnight Love Affair was released?  I figure 1976, but what month?  I see it is listed on the AC charts.  Did it give that info?  Is Joyce still Married?  Did Telma get married?  Also, on your survey you do not list the outcome of the questions.  Is there an out and out favorite Dawn LP???  I also think you could add more questions...favorite non Dawn song...favorite Dawn album cover art.  Thank you for all your help.  David

Re:  Dawn
I will have to defer to Del on the musical questions, but I have some vague memory of Witches Brew.  I can reply to some other questions.  Joyce is no longer married.  Last I heard Telma wasn't.  As for the survey info, initially, it was created to help us find out what kind of TOAD fans were visiting the site.  Since there was a gap of many years between 77 and 88, we wanted to find out if the fans went back to the beginning or were more recent fans, in order to develop areas of interest for the site.  It would take a great deal of time to compile the statistics for publication and we didn't know that anyone would have an interest in the results besides us.  Since we've been collecting the data for 4 years it may prove interesting one of these days to review all the data files and see if there is.

Re:  Dawn-Chart Info
"Witch's Brew" was the theme to the movie of the same name. I haven't found any release info on this so don't think it was ever released even as a single. The movie itself was released on VHS but is no longer made. "Runaway/Happy Together" did not make the Adult Contemporary Chart but did make the Hot 100. "Midnight love Affair" was released in April 1976. It debuted on the AC chart on 5/8/76 but missed the Hot 100. If I remember correctly, the issue of PEOPLE magazine with Tony on the cover mentions an album by Joyce in the article. Perhaps someone with that article could review it.

Tony's New Book
Wow, ran out to Borders yesterday and got Tony's new book, which I've been anticipating for quite a while.  Read the entire thing yesterday.  Couldn't put it down.  Wow, what a read.  Very well written.  I won't give anything away either, but there is some shocking stuff in there.  Tony is brutally honest in this book.  He shoots straight from the hip.  There were parts in there that were just laugh out loud funny.  He's very self-deprecating.  Of course Freddie is in there as well.  He should be especially in light of the bond these two had and will always have.  I was and still am a big fan of Freddie's too, and I am happy that Tony still pays tribute to him and does not let him be forgotten.  Tony bares his soul in this book and that took a lot of guts.  This book is a page turner and a must read for anyone who is or ever was a Tony Orlando fan!!!!

Halfway to Paradise
I read recently that a Tony Orlando had a minor hit with Halfway to Paradise 1960/61. This was prior to Billy Fury having a massive hit with it in the UK. Is this the same Tony Orlando as I can't seem to find any info about it on here.

Thanks.

Yes, it's the same Tony Orlando. " Halfway to Paradise" and "Bless You" were two of his earlier hits from his solo career in the early 60's.
