Re:  Tie a Yellow Ribbon

The song was recorded in 1973 and reached #1 on April 21, and remained there for 4 weeks.  The song was a based on the story of a man who went to jail for writing bad checks and spent 3 years in jail.  Upon release asked his wife to tie a yellow ribbon on the tree in their yard so he would know if it was ok to get off the bus......if she still wanted him to come home.  The song sold more than 6 million copies by year end and continued to sell thru out the 70s and 80s.

Joyce and Pam
I was able to catch Joyce and Pam on the holiday special.  Their group was wonderful, great songs, great voices and their costumes were wonderful. I was only able to watch for about 45 minutes, but all the groups were excellent.  Way to go Joyce and Pam!

Merry Christmas Del and all the Friends of TOAD!  It appears that most of the US will have a White Christmas too.  I didn't see Pam and Joyce, but have heard from Southern California friends who did tape it and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I was gonna watch Larry King "Live"...
On cable TV, I like to watch "Larry King" interview musicians. Couple nights ago, I missed the first 10 minutes of the show & as soon as I turn it on, there were photos of Tony Orlando growing up thru the ages and I wondered if he passed away or not... I remember almost a year ago at Yahoo news on my computer mentioning Tony Orlando being in a hospital and having some problem.  I wished somebody would "knock-three-times" on the ceiling and if they would let me,  woooo ooahh, email me twice to let me know if To-ny's still aliiiiiiiiiiiive!"  I LOVED his singing and songs. Is he still with us? I hope so, I would love to see him in concert!

Re:  I was gonna watch Larry King "Live"
Yes, Yes, Yes, Barbara Jean, he is still ali-i-i-ve.  Tony was interviewed on Larry King Weekend this past Sunday in connection with the release of his autobiography Halfway to Paradise.  You should have stuck around for the interview, as I recall those photos ran midway through the interview.  He still performs regularly and right now is in Las Vegas at The Orleans and will be in Atlantic City at the Tropicana at the end of the year.  Keep an eye on the tour page for additional information.

Tie A Yellow Ribbon
My husband and I had some friends over and we played "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak Tree" and we ended up in a big discussion over what the song means.  I said it was about a man being released from prison, but everyone else said it was about a man in Vietnam.  Could someone please help us?  Thanks.

Re:  Tie A Yellow Ribbon
Sheila, you are correct.  The song is about a man being released from prison.

Re:  Tie A Yellow Ribbon
Yes the man in the song went to jail for3 years for writing bad checks and when he was released he wanted his wife to tie a ribbon around the tree in the front yard so he would know if it was ok to come home or he would stay on the bus and go to the next town...true story.

Great News from Joyce!
Joyce and Pam were invited to join the "Inspirational Voices of Free" choir and have been rehearsing quite a bit preparing for a television appearance.  They will perform all original music which is spiritual and uplifting--not exactly Gospel but sort of in that vain.  They will be appearing on a TV show in the Los Angeles area.  The show may be picked up nationwide but is scheduled to air on KCET in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.  Currently their time slot to sing is about 4:30 p.m.

Tony's New Album
I have been waiting patiently for Tony's new album to come out.  Does anyone know when it is going to come out.

I have been Tony's fan for 30 years, and can't wait to get my hands on it.  I love you Tony!!!

Re:  Tony's New Album
Krissy, we all have heard promises about a CD, but as Tony recently said in an interview:  "It's all done, but now it's a matter of finding a label, and that's tough."  Let's face it, there's not a lot of people saying 'let's put out a Tony Orlando album.'"  The News-Press, December 8, 2002

Half and Half
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy Telma on Half and Half.  She's such an awesome actress!!!  It's so great seeing her every week again on a series.  She's been going and going since the TOAD days.  She is so talented and I'm so happy for her! I hope she'll be doing some talk shows in the near future. YOU GO GIRL!!!

Re:  Half and Half
i agree Mary. Thanks to Pat, who has taped all the episodes for me - since I don't get UPN, I have been able to see Telma's new show.  I am so happy to not only see her on a series again, but to see her in a role that really shows off her comedic talent. Her knack for come-backs and sarcasm - uh, I mean attitude ;-) just wasn't used to its fullest on The Hughley's so it's nice to see her again doing what she does best.  "Nobody does sarcasm like Telma Hopkins." LOL

Re:  Half and Half
I read this week that "Half and Half" is one of UPN's successes of the current TV season. I also read a review that said some like the focus of "Half and Half" is supposed to be on the young girls but Telma Hopkins steals the show. Way to go!

Re:  Wind
Hi,

I saw your post on the message board.  That tune Make Believe is one of my all time fave rave tunes from 1969.  I still have my original 45!  Nobody seems to recall that top 30 tune.  I just love it and never even knew it was Tony singing.  I was wondering and hoping we could hook up a trade for a copy of that LP that the song was on.  I wanted to hear the other tunes on the album.  I could copy the LP onto a CD for you if your record player is broke.  If you want to hook up drop me a line at jazzbro@ptd.net and perhaps we can both hear the possibly awesome LP.

Regards,
John

Tony's Show
I am so excited. I am going to see Tony in Vegas at the Orleans for his Santa & Me show. He is going to have a meet and  greet after the show.  I am disabled and met him when I was 10 years old, and got a kiss.  As far as I'm concerned he has only gotten better with age.  I will be the one in the front row wearing a yellow t-shirt and a yellow ribbon in my hair.  Can't wait to see Tony.  A fan always.  I love you Tony!!

Merry Christmas
I'd like to take the time to wish Tony, Joyce, Telma and Pam Merry Christmas and a special Happy Birthday to Joyce 12/14.  I hope you know how much your fans miss you and wish you all the best....we hope to see a DAWN reunion one day ....a Xmas CD wouldn't be a bad idea either...........to everyone at Friends of Tony and Dawn ....Merry Christmas...thanks for bringing back so many great memories....it makes me appreciate those DAWN years all that much more....

Re:  Merry Christmas
David, thank you for the Holiday wishes!  It is great when people understand what this site is about--TOAD--the history we chronicle and preserve, the memories it stirs.  All the hit records and awards connected with the songs belong to them as a group.  They were partners and friends.  It seems that not enough people remember or even acknowledge that.  That's what we are all about here.

It's So Nice To Be With You
I'm looking for the artist that originally sang the song..."Oh, it's so nice to be with you, I love all the things you say and do....etc....".  Someone said they thought it was TOAD.  Anyone know if it was and if so, what CD I could find it on?

Thanks, Onticol

Re:  It's So Nice To Be With You
Gallery was the group that released that song.  Perhaps the person who told you they thought it was TOAD confused that with the song "To Be With You"

Was it redone by someone else more popular than Gallery?

Re:  It's So Nice To Be With You
Gallery was the only group to have a hit with this song and Tony and Dawn recorded an LP called To Be With You, but it is not the same song.

Guest on Larry King Live?
According to another website, Tony Orlando is to be a guest on 12-3-02 Larry King Live.  However upon checking CNN Larry King Live website, nothing is mentioned of Tony being scheduled (http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/larry.king.live/) Do you have any confirmation of this arrangement?

Re:  Guest on Larry King Live?

It's interesting to ask us about information published on another site. Since we at Friends of TOAD only post appearances that can be confirmed by another source, and you don't see it currently on our schedule, that should answer your question.  Thank your for expressing your confidence in our site.  If we receive confirmation of the appearance we will post it on our site.

Re:  Guest on Larry King Live
Tony will appear on Larry King Weekend on Sunday, December 15th at 6:00 PM Pacific Time 9:00 PM Eastern Time
