Hiawatha Slots, Sarnia Concert Aug. 21, 2002
Tony Orlando performed at the Hiawatha Horse Park & Slots facility last evening (Aug. 21, 2002), we went to the 9:30 P.M. show. WOW! What a performance, Tony had people dancing in the aisles and on the tables.  A truly wonderful performer.  It was announced at the end of the concert that Tony had performed with a sore throat and migraine headache, even through all of his discomfort, the show went on and was a huge success.  Our local radio station had people calling in this morning saying that the show was super great, WOW what a performance! The MC also announced that Tony has agreed to  return to Hiawatha, located in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, again. You can bet that I will be the first in line to get my tickets!

Dear Leona,
It was great to hear about a Canadian Tony show! Boy, performing with a sore throat AND a migraine...WOW! As a migraine sufferer I can appreciate that. He's quite the entertainer, eh? Keep us posted on future shows. By the way, I was born in Ontario, Canada and now live in California. I've been going to Tony's shows since the 1970s. He's the BEST.

Tony's Early Years
Just a message to tell you something about this man's make up.

I worked as a gas station attendant on the Union City/Weehawken, N.J. border around '66 and '67.  Tony lived a few blocks away and I would see him walk up and down the street with his handicapped sister quite often. He also came into the station on occasion and played his guitar along with my fellow attendant and my fellow attendant's girlfriend who happen to live near him. He sat in the small office and strummed away singing low and we all had a great time. He was an extremely outgoing and sincere and never had a bad word for anyone.

This was the time frame between Halfway To Paradise and Tie A Yellow Ribbon. He was not working at the time and I know that fame once again was the farthest thing from his mind back then. He was a real down to earth person then and has never changed from everything I read.  I also happened to catch his show the end of February at the Golden Nugget and was amazed at his energy level and the tremendous performance he gave to us all.

I personally would have loved to hear him sing Halfway To Paradise, Bless You, or one of his older classics.  These were great songs that would be definitely be appreciated by his audiences.  What is your opinion on one or two old classics being performed at his shows?

Re:  Tony's Early Years
Tony occasionally sings Bless You and Halfway to Paradise at during his live performances.  Not often enough based on the reaction of the crowd.  It is usually in response to someone calling out from the audience for him to sing it and he obliges.  I agree, he needs to do it more often.

Halfway to Paradise....the book!

The following information was received from the Marketing Department of St. Martin's Press and posted at their request:

Official word is out that Halfway to Paradise, (the book) will be in bookstores October 16th.  It's time to spread the word to everyone.

Also, Tony will make an appearance on THE TODAY SHOW, October 14th to discuss the book.  That's a few months away, but as usual all appearances will be included on the Tour Schedule.  Remember to set your VCR!

Check back for further news. You can rely on us to post up-to-date information as soon as we have it.

Re:  Tony's Book
Pat, I was so happy to see your update on Halfway to Paradise!!   It hasn't been talked about much and I haven't seen anything about the book anywhere for so, so long!!

I'm excited that Tony will be here in New York doing the Today show, perhaps doing a book signing as well??  Look for me, I'll be the one standing outside the window with the biggest sign ever!!   :)
Thanks Pat!!

Ragtime Follies
I am trying, unsuccessfully thus far, to find Ragtime Follies in a cassette or CD format.  Do you know if it was just never made in those formats?

Thanks

Re:  Ragtime Follies
Ragtime Follies was released on cassette, but not on CD and you can often find the cassette on online auction sites such as eBay.  Certain songs from that album are contained on compilation CDs, but not in its entirety.

Re:  Tuneweaving
The record album is frequently for sale on on-line auction sites like eBay and doesn't bring more than a few dollars.  There is one currently listed for auction there for $2.99.  Generally the TOAD albums and even Tony's subsequent solo albums are commonplace on eBay.  The rarer ones are still sealed and never been played, perhaps even with autographs.

There is only one truly rare Tony Orlando album, "Tony and Toni" which was an album from 1984 (post Dawn) which consisted of songs he recorded with Toni Wine.  The album was in a "Promotional Copy" form and never released to the consumer market.  There are only a handful of these albums in existence.

Re:  Tuneweaving
Regarding the "Tony and Toni" album, have any idea as to the value of that particular album??

Re:  Tuneweaving
I have no idea of the present value, other than it would probably bring more than any of his other albums do at auction.  Definitely, nothing like you would see on the "Antique Road Show" where you suddenly find out you have been holding onto an item worth 4 figures or more. To put things into perspective, you rarely see his items sold for more than $30, but something this rare could possibly bring more.
