Story from the Branson.net Gazette
Here is the Feature Story from the Branson.net Gazette

“40 YEARS IN THE BIZ AND STILL MAKING HITS”
by: Rene Ray

So read the cake presented to Tony Orlando on Wednesday, March 21 to mark his 40th anniversary in show business. March also marks the anniversary of his being the first singer signed to Epic Records. Certainly a momentous occasion, but hardly a stopping point for this entertainment legend who is presently at work on a brand new album of original material that will turn heads and perk up ears across the country when released. Orlando is once again working with the same producer that he teamed with 20 years ago on his hits such as “Tie A Yellow Ribbon” and “Knock Three Times”. The new offering is fresh, current and as exciting as anything in the music industry today.

Orlando has been particularly busy this year with an abundance of projects. He recorded his first ever “live” album in January as New York’s famous Bottom Line. His much anticipated duet with Deborah Gibson on “Knock Three Times” was released this month on her new CD “M.Y.O.B” and he is staying busy on tour across the country. All this from the man who, just last week, was a category on America’s favorite game show, “Jeopardy”.

Adding yet another award to his list this Friday, March 23rd, when he will be inducted into the Casino Legends Hall of Fame in Las Vegas - celebrating his 40th year as one of America’s greatest selling recording artists. The induction ceremony will be held Friday, March 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.

Tony has previously been named Entertainer of the Year in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City. Labor Day Weekend he will again headline the Riviera Hotel and Casino.

An astounding five #1 hits, a People’s Choice Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - Tony Orlando captured the heart of America 40 years ago and has held on to his popularity through the years. During a surprise party in Branson, Tony reminisced about attending, in the early 70’s, a party celebrating Sammy Davis, Jr.’s 40th anniversary in show business. He remembered thinking at the time that 40 years was a really long time. Upon reaching that same milestone, he now says he is amazed how quickly it has gone.

Tony is one of the favorite entertainers in Branson since his first appearances there. He still makes time each year to perform his “Yellow Ribbon Salute to Veterans” each year during the Veterans Homecoming Celebration. Orlando will appear select dates this year at the Osmond Family Theatre: September 24-29; October 1-6; October 8-9; October 22-27; November 9-11.

Orlando is the consummate enterainer and also a very genuine and giving person. He, his wife Frannie and daughter, Jennie, are integral parts of the Branson community where they have lived for several years. While we offer wholehearted congratulations on his 40th anniversary, we also congratulate him for his integrity, love of God, family and country, as well as his dedication to America’s veterans. If you haven’t seen his show make plans NOW! It will be the highlight of your trip to Branson - or your visit to any one of his performances.

Reminder for New York Area Friends of TOAD
As I mentioned in my report from The Bottom Line show on January 20th, after that show Tony filmed a spot at the request of Cousin Brucie for the Variety Club's telethon which will air only in the New York area on Sunday, March 25th on PAX-TV. Before filming Cousin Brucie asked us to be absolutely quiet and at the end of Tony's appeal for support of this organization, he said we could cheer as loud as we wanted to and we sure did.

Another Great Show
I had the wonderful opportunity to see Tony here in Florida. Wow..... what a performance. His son Jon did the opening act. He had the audience hysterical. What a talented family. Another surprise was Johnny Petillo's performance. Seems like yesterday he was with The Duprees.

I just received word that Joyce, Pam and Ryan are in Detroit today to prepare for funeral services for their brother Melvin. He passed away last week. They asked that we all keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time
