It might have been him.  He is performing two of his new songs, ♫Caribbean Jewel♫ and ♫Papito's Trumpet♫ at The Nosotros Golden Eagle Awards tonight at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Orlando v. Newton
What is the status of the lawsuit: Orlando vs. Newton and the countersuit?

Thanks.

Re:  Orlando v. Newton
Reply The lawsuits were dismissed with prejudice earlier this year.  In other words there was a confidential settlement.

As we have reported on this site many times since its first public performance in January at The Bottom Line, Caribbean Jewel is a great song!  And of course Harmonizing Nights is a favorite of several Friends of TOAD!

Backup singers
I was wondering  if Tony Orlando has the same backup singers that he had in Branson. They were great. I am planning to see him on Dec 7th.

The members of the band perform the backup vocals for Tony and they are terrific!  He does not have separate backup singers currently.

On the Road to Kutshers
That old 9W-S-N came back to haunt us again, even with co-pilot Jo on the job with our nifty AAA triptik. We were almost foiled once on the way up but we quickly regained our bearings and were on the right road again…to ♫Pallisades Park♫way... We still don't know why every set of directions we had leaves off the fact that you need to cross the George Washington Bridge--go figure. The route was beginning to look all too familiar. Although we missed our favorite gas station/watering hole/direction service. This time we actually stopped in Goshen! For some odd reason they have a stuffed deer on the lawn by the gas station. Now being that this is not a site I see where I live, I made a comment about Bambi's mom, which ended up destroying Jo's makeup and almost using up all of the Harmonizing Nights tissue I brought for her. We made a stop for water and snacks for the road and Jo went to make a phone call. I came out of the store and it looked like a scene from the Day the Earth Stood Still…no one in sight--no one standing at either phone booth. Jo wasn't at the car either. So I waited….and waited…and waited and just as I had visions of a mystery vehicle driving up and throwing her inside and speeding off, I saw her in the distance walking towards the car. It seems that none of the pay phones in Goshen were working, so she had to use the phone in the bar.

Since the pink teddy bear purse was a flop for Lakewood, Jo left the girls' piggybanks alone and just went with a pocketbook (pronounced "pakabook")--well actually there were two, but that's another story. A purse that is neither a pocket nor a book; some things you just don't question… I imagine old teddy was retired from the last trip because it was far too difficult to dig out the coins in a timely fashion. Only one basket shot in each direction (including imitation crowd roars)--once it goes above $1 they don't let you do it, but it makes sense since sometimes you'd need nearly an entire roll of quarters. The toll takers were a little confused when I would politely point out that I didn't want to buy the bridge, I just want to cross it--$6.50 for a crossing! Sheesh! Out here, everyone is complaining about the toll potentially being increased to $3--and we only charge in one direction.

Kutshers only had one billboard along the way, but alas the camera was in the trunk. No time for roadside photos anyway, we were on our way first to one of the largest outlet centers I know of, with 199 stores! I was surprised to learn that Jo hadn't experienced the wonder of outlet shopping before--an outlet virgin so to speak. She was so excited by it all that she was busy trying to figure out how we could go there again on Sunday! Even suggesting that we could sleep in the parking lot waiting for it to open, since we knew it would be a very late night anyway. LOL!!! I imagine we all felt that way the first time ;)

Kutshers has the same layout as the Nevele where he was this time last year. Even the buildings appeared to be the same. This time we actually had the dinner, which came with the show. The wait-staff seemed enamored with us offering us extra entrees and filling our table with desserts--all way to sweet for either of us. The sherbet was good, even though we couldn't figure out what the flavor was--was it pineapple?

We were in the nosebleed section for the show, as getting front row seats at a resort in the Catskills is akin to getting seats behind the dugout at a baseball game--they are inherited. It did prove an interesting perspective for a change. There was absolutely no energy from the tables around us--and it gave the feeling that were watching the show on television, rather than live. Perhaps it was the sleep inducing carbo-loading everyone did at dinner or just the late hour for some, with the show starting at 10:00. Since I'm from a different time zone than everyone else, it was a piece of cake for me--not to mention the advantage of years of training!

Tony was working it hard--giving his all for the crowd. But there was something different about him…it took a bit but we realized that he no longer had the goatee. We were later told it was the casualty of a shaving miscalculation. LOL!!! It was the standard format show (Hey Jo! It was a picture! I'm batting 1000 so far), except he didn't do the Veterans tribute, although it would have been a great crowd for it. In honor of Hank Medress who was there with his son, we all got to sing ♫The Lion Sleeps Tonight♫. Tony did both ♫Caribbean Jewel♫ and ♫Tocolo (Papito's Trumpet)♫. Our friend Johnny Petillo was back in the show for a few numbers and so was Tony's brother David. It was nice to see both of them back! Johnny is in great voice and the audience just loved his part in the show.

♫Save the last dance for me♫…Even though we weren't visible during the show, afterwards we were surrounded by our friends who were surprised and thrilled to see us; lots of hugs and kisses all around. Post show was spent catching up with everyone. All of the guys seemed to take time to comment on the Canada gigs, which are coming up and how they were dreading the nine hour drive between the gigs. Yikes! I took some great photos there, emailed them off to family and friends as requested. Then we sat down to catch up with Johnny and Barbara and just waited for the droves of people passing through Tony's dressing room to clear, saving us for last. It was great! He spent some time looking at some of our old photos I had with me and he kept commenting how we were so very young. Ah yes, that we were--three decades of photos and changes. Some to share; others not... We met more relatives, multiple agents, and were invited to the lounge where we spent the next couple of hours just talking, goofing around, dancing, and taking more photos. Poor Tony had to leave at 4 a.m. to catch a plane to Texas.

It was rainy and foggy on the way back--weather which I understand, although it was freaking Jo out. I don't do snow or ice, but I certainly can drive in fog and rain in my sleep. With only one brief stop, we got back to the hotel on Long Island around 6:00 a.m. With the bad weather I didn't get to see that spectacular Long Island sunrise Jo often speaks of--well maybe next time.

Re:  On the Road to Kutchers
Hi there Everyone!! So sorry for taking forever to post, seems like I've just awoken from a wonderful whirlwind of a terrific weekend!! It all began with a much needed dip in the pool at Pat's hotel, where even the pool staff now welcomes us with big smiles, making us feel like we've never left!! Then having to whisk my girls away from the pool, so to get ready for another terrific and adventurous expedition!! Living in New York, most of us natives do not take advantage of all New York has to offer, but let me tell you, I'd gladly give up a Broadway Show or a visit to Lady Liberty to get to the Woodbury Outlets!! OH my GOSH!!

I'm even scoping out the rest of New York for more outlets and came up with something very similar which I'm told is at the very end of Long Island, so get your shopping shoes on Pat, next roadtrip, we're headed to the Tangier Outlet Center in Riverhead, Long Island!! Now, getting back to our adventure. May I say with proudness that only once did we get a little sidetracked off the infamous Route 9, but almost immediately Pat figured it all out and got us right back on the road again!! Back to (almost) civilization, non-working payphones and stuffed animals for lawn ornaments!! Now, before I go on, I must tell you that I was once again shown the value of true friendship.....

You know that question everyone asks of you at least once in your life.... "If you were stranded on a deserted island, and got to pick 5 people you'd be with you, who would you pick?" Well, I don't think I made it to 5, but clearly there has to be something said when Pat didn't laugh or comment after hearing that my first pick would be Billy Crystal!! What can I say? Humor goes a long way with me. But of course, Billy was followed by Richard Gere, Ben Affleck and what is that guy's name with the dirty blonde hair who looks half his age? Ah yes, Bill Paxton!! Again, no laughs or comments from Pat, what a gal, what a friend!!

And speaking about friends..... we were sad that "our" Billy did not come along with Tony to do this show and his presence was truly missed. But, it was great to see David back with the guys again!! The show, was wonderful as always, except, no Veterans' Salute, no patriotic hymns sung for America, odd as it was still the July 4th weekend ?

Instead, Tony thrilled all of us by bringing out a very special surprise and a very special friend, Johnny Petillo!!

I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful Johnny sang all of our favorite 50's songs. His voice, like fine wine, only gets better and better. I can't believe the last time we saw Johnny was over a year ago, Johnny hasn't changed at all and belts out those notes like never before!! Tony and Johnny should really begin to think about touring together, they are so wonderful and if they "tore" up places like Atlantic City and Monticello, just think what they'd do in Las Vegas!! Wow!!!!!

Well, anyway, after another one of Tony's Terrific Shows, we were able to visit with Johnny and his lovely Barbara, along with the guys, David, Kerry, Tracy, (sniff, sniff) but no Billy :( Pat brought along her very own personal "bible" photo album and shared some fond memories with Tony who by the way looked younger, more handsome, more relaxed. Could it be that missing goatee?? Tony stayed with us as long as he could before having to leave to get to the airport, but we continued to visit with Johnny, Barbara, David, Hank, Marvin and even was lucky enough to meet and talk with Tony's cousin Cheryl. A couple of agents were also fun to meet, Pat continued to dazzle everyone with her digital camera, seemed like everyone wanted to get their picture taken with this modern piece of intricate technology, even I, who has graduated from Photography 101 is in awe, now if I can only learn how to work the darn thing!!

So now, here it is in the wee hours of the morning and would you believe? Not a drink to be had, nothing!! Not even one ounce of Smart Water!! Have no fear though, Pat, always thinking ahead, brought along a six pack of Kit Kat bars and Junior Mints galore!! A much needed distraction (for me) for that wild drive home. There was fog, as thick as soup (a mere mist, according to Pat), wild animals trekking across the N.Y. Thruway (ahh, those cute little deers awaiting to become lawn ornaments) many, many brake lights (in the not too far distance) but as always, Pat handled the road like a real Trooper and got us to "The Diner" somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where EZ Pass Owners don't dare to go or should I say are not allowed to go since now they have their own route designated just for them! "The Diner" was located on an alternate route, for Non-EZ Pass Owners to the George Washington Bridge that this time led us to no other place than New York City!! Loose on the streets of Manhattan again (without even planning to) we were able to see the U.S.S. Intrepid again, this time from a different angle, but it wasn't too long before Pat figured out where we were and how to get us home.

Of course, not without that true Miracle of 34th Street, the one escape from New York City... The Queens Midtown Tunnel. Surely after seeing that infamous Met Life building which houses Grand Central Station and after passing Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, we knew we weren't far from the only way out. I kept telling Pat that the best part about being lost in Manhattan at dawn is being able to experience a New York sunrise. Yeahrightsure, with that fog, we were lucky to be able to see our way out of the tunnel!! Finally home, back safely on Long Island, we were able to catch a few winks, have another dip in the pool and no nodding off for me this time poolside!! Although I wish I had, because just as soon as I was able to relax, I had to attend to some EMT business, so annoying!! But thank you Pat, as always, for allowing me to entrust my girls in your care, there's noone else that I would ever feel as comfortable with in doing that, especially with a pool!

Before we knew it, the time had come for Pat to get ready for her long, journey home, with another weekend well spent, with even more astonishing memories to withhold, with another totally terrific Tony and Johnny Petillo Show, til we meet again..........
