Tony and Dawn mentioned on "Who Wants To Be  Millionaire"
Monday 28-Feb-2000 20:52:11
Dawn was an answer to one of the $1000 questions on the game show  "Who Wants To Be  A Millionaire" tonight. The question was "Who was the back-up group for the 1970's singer  Tony Orlando?" or something to that effect. I was so excited to hear their name  I really don't remember the exact question :). The contestant answered correctly!

Wow Julie!  I was out earlier and came home to be greeted by a very excited 6 year old telling me all about the question on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire!  Of course  her excitement was more because she of course  knew the answer!! Who said that Tony Orlando and Dawn are a thing of the past??  Long live T.O.A.D.!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advance notice Julie.  I was able to see it by the time it played in my time zone.  The question  by the way was "What was the name of the backup singers who sang with Tony Orlando in the 1970s?"  And the final answer was:  Dawn!

Isn't it amazing how a song can transport you to another time and place? A few days ago I was in record store  and found a Tony Orlando and Dawn album that had the song "Candida". When I got home and played "Candida " it was like 30 years had vanished. I was a sophomore in high school again  with my radio tuned to WABC in New York  listening to this great song by some group I never heard of. I always thought "Candida" was a better song than "Knock Three Times " which sounded almost the same. I remembered playing "Candida" over and over again back in 1970. It's really hard to believe so many years have gone by!

Hi Bobby:  It's amazing how hearing a song can take you back to the time when you first heard it or when  as is the case with most TOAD fans  heard it over and over again :). I think good music endures and it's obvious that Tony Orlando and Dawn have recorded some songs that have really touched all of us.

Dear Bobby   On the album that you found is there a song about "Sally kissing someone in a strawberry field" or something like that?  My mom is looking for it.  Please email me a RLC4games.  Thanks.

The Flip Side
Monday 14-Feb-2000 21:24:48
I had the STRANGEST thing happen last night!  I woke up about 2 a.m. and got up to get a drink of water.  Standing there  in the dark  I realized there was a song running through my head.  And it had to have been AT LEAST 20 years since I'd even had the vaguest thought of it.  It took a few seconds  but when I got to the chorus of it  I realized that  for whatever reason  my brain had conjured a replay of "She Can't Hold a Candle to You".  Wow!  Talk about a blast from the past!
Am I correct that that song never appeared on any of TOAD's albums? - I seem to recall that it was the flip side of one of their single releases.  Anyone else remember this song  and where it appeared?
And if anyone can give me any ideas why  after so long  I thought of such an obscure song  at that moment  I'd really appeciate it as well!
Robin (who has had "Candle" running on a non-stop loop - of course! - through her head all day....)

Hi Robin:  It's funny how the brain can store so many things such as lyrics that you haven't sung or even thought of for twenty plus years  isn't it? "She Can't Hold A Candle To You" was released on TOAD's Prime Time album.

Hi Robin:  The song She Can't Hold A Candle To You was released on the flip side of Stepping Out(Gonna Boogie Tonight)  also released on TOAD Prime Time album  a great TOAD album. I hope Arista would release the Prime Time album on cd. I hope you sleep well tonight and don't wake up to Knock Three Times  just kidding. Thanks for sharing your story  and find your 45.

Julie  John  thanks for your dual clarifications.  I was very puzzled when Julie told me it was on Prime Time; but John's statement that it appeared on the flip side of "Steppin' Out  Gonna Boogie Tonight" clarifies things to me.  Didn't EVERY TOAD fan flip that single and memorize the "B" side as well?  ;)  So that's my stronger association with "Candle" - as the flip side of "Boogie Tonight" - rather than on Prime Time.
And don't those of us "of a certain age" really MISS 45s?

Hey Robin   I really miss those 45's. I got every 45 TOAD have because some songs were not released on their albums. Runaway/Happy Together  flip side was Don't Act Like A Baby  You're All I Need To Get By  flip side was I Know You Like A Book  Vaya Con Dios  flip side was I Can't Believe How Much I Love You  a differen't version than Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree  flip side of I Can't Believe How Much I Love You. Also  Sing flip side was Sweet On Candy  a great B side. If you don't have those 45's you are missing alot of great music of TOAD. You might be able to get them at any old record stores.
I am glad I can help you with She Can't Hold A Candle To You.  Keep in touch. Let me know if you have those 45's. If not I will try to see if I can find them for you.

The song you are referring to is: "She Can't Hold A Candle To You"  appeared on Tony Orlando and Dawn's "Prime Time " 1974. It comes before the song "Gimmie A Good Old Mammy Song".

TOAD Tour Book
Tuesday  8-Feb-2000 00:49:02
Did TOAD ever had a tour book  or program when they were called Dawn in the early 70's besides the Special Event tour book? I can not stress enough about this wed site how great it is. Also I really like the new picture of the web site.
I really hope they would release more of their music on cd  also their TV shows on VHS. I am thinking about calling Goodlife Network and see if they would consider releasing some of their shows on VHS. Does anybody know where Goodlife TV Network is located? If so please email me back. I hope every TOAD fan will also call or write to Goodlife Network to release their shows on VHS. The more the merrier.
Thanks TOAD fans.

I love Tony   too

I have seen Tony just about every time he has appeared in the Atlantic City area. I was also there the night of his breakdown in 1977 in Mass. I have written him many letters  but I never get any response. He seems to truly adore his fans when we see him perform. The last letter  I gave to his son Jon after his show. I want to know what ever became of the man from his movie 300 miles from Stephanie. I notice a lot of people posted about that. He is the best performer I've ever seen live  but I wish he'd answer his fan mail!!!
