Was wondering if Tony Orlando was coming back around to the Syracuse or Rochester area any time in the near future and if so  where and when?

Tony just appeared at the New York State Fair in Syracuse on Tuesday of this week.  Currently there is nothing scheduled for that area.

I'm sure the lyrics for "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" are out there somewhere (and I'll look a little further) but in the meantime here is a GREAT site with a lot of other song lyrics  new and old  including TOAD's other hits "Candida" and "Knock Three Times":
    http://www.clinton.net/~sammy/lyric.htm
Believe me  you can REALLY kill some time browsing through this collection!  And there are midi files too so you can listen - or Even sing along - while you browse.

BUDDHA/BMG NEWS
Wednesday 23-Aug-2000 14:15:47
Buddha Records  BMG's reissue label  has released four of the original Partridge Family albums with an original David Cassidy solo album soon to follow. The quality of sound and packaging is outstanding. If you enjoyed Tony Orlando & Dawn's former Bell labelmates  check them out. Buddha released five 5th Dimension albums earlier this year. If there is a pattern going here  five Tony Orlando & Dawn albums can't be too far away. Go to www.buddharecords.com to tell them how much you're enjoying what they've done so far  and tell them how much you want MORE. We also have a brand new album from Tony Orlando to look forward to by Christmas. From what I've heard about it at shows  it will be very exciting  and I know fans will be eager to help support it.

Yes  he is half Greek  half Puerto Rican. According to Tony  that makes him "a Greek-Eurican".:)

Olivia Newton-John's appearance
Thursday 17-Aug-2000 00:06:24
Hello Everyone
I could be wrong but way back when I was a kid I was crazy about Olivia Newton-John. Of course I had probably first heard her on the radio with "If You Love Me..." But it seems to me that I first saw her  possibly make her debut on the TOAD show. She was on a swing with flowers singing "Have You ever been Mellow?". Does anyone else remember seeing her on TOAD or was it another show? I was a young teen but that was the moment when I fell in love with her and her music for many years. They say you can never go back but it would be fun finding a tape of her appearance. By the way  I must have been one of many (maybe from seeing her so sweet and innocent singing a great song) because years later my best friend named his daughter  Olivia.  Thanks  Rob

Hi Rob:  I don't recall Olivia ever appearing on the TOAD show. The listings in our episode guide correspond to the current airing on GoodLife TV with the exception of the 4 summer replacement episodes. It is possible that GoodLife edited Olivia's appearance from the show  but I really don't think so. It seems that she is popular enough that they would want to leave her guest spot in. Since she was so popular in the 70's she probably made guest appearances on many of the variety shows at the time. Good luck in your search for that appearance.

A long-time TOAD fan!  :)

Hi everyone!  I simply do not believe this site -back in 1973 when I became a TOAD fanatic  I never dreamed that there would come a day in the year 2000 when so many of us could communicate like this!  It totally amazes me!  I saw TOAD at the Hartford  Connecticut Civic Center on April 29  1975 - I was dressed entirely in yellow  of course! - just before my 12th birthday.  I audio taped every episode of the show  bought every single album  and to this day  I can recite skits and stuff from the show even though I haven't seen it in 25 years!  I still love Tony and think TOAD is one of the most underrated pop groups in the past 30 years.  If anyone wants to reminisce  or if I can be helpful in remembering anything  please e-mail me!  :)

Hi Marie!  That was so nice of you to write that wonderful stuff.  There are alot of TOAD fans still around that have the same thoughts and feelings that you have.  I remember taping the old tv shows on cassette and wearing them out until the next show lol.  My walls were covered from wall to wall. I wanted to start on the ceiling  but mom put a stop to that lol.  If you want to chat  just give me a holler.  Take care :)

I know how you feel. I've been a fan of Tony Orlando's for 26 years  ever since I was 15 years old. I saw him in concert at least three times. I also had the pleasure of meeting him in person last summer. I also hope to see him in February in concert. I have almost all his albums and every magazine article imaginable. I know exactly how you feel.

Dear Marie   WELCOME!  It is a great site and there are many dedicated fans.  I  like you  have been a fan of Tonys since I was 13 years old. Well  now I am 38 I dont know where the time went  but it is amazing after all these years people are still with him.  It means alot.  He is a great performer and a beautiful person.  I use to tape the shows too with my cassette recorder and not move from in front of the television set because you could not take your eyes off of him  yes at the age of 13.  All my girlfriends where into the other performers at the time. I was the only Tony fan in my neighborhood and school so all my friends would cut the pictures out of any of the mags they had  what a picture collection I had and I know I have photo albums in the attic somewhere.  I was Tony for Halloween one year too - that was funny  but as you know you would do anything.  I love to check into this site it is wonderful and I love to read about everyone's stories and about their adventures.  And when you read about people it is almost like you know them.  Hey  you never know the next time you see Tony in concert you could be sitting next to someone you have sent a message to.  Have a great day and welcome to a place where all of Tony's friends meet.

Tony in Vegas!
Friday 11-Aug-2000 13:02:44
Hey everyone! I'm a TOAD newbie  but I just wanted to find out if anyone's going to see Tony at the Riviera in Vegas on Oct. 13-14? We should all meet. Read on a message board that Tony likes Oreo cookies. Is that true? If so  I plan on bringing him a few.

Hi Joby:  Welcome to the message board! The oreo cookie thing started many years ago when Tony  Telma and Joyce were singing together. Tony used to joke that they were America's only singing oreo cookie. Once on the tv show he told the joke and then said  "Keep looking  you'll figure it out."

Robin  that's one of the great parts about the TOAD site--having an open and friendly forum where reminiscing about the old TOAD days is encouraged!  I'm surprised that I never met you at the Riv  as I spent a great deal of time there in the 70s as well.  The parties lasted until sunrise--we lived like vampires never seeing the light of day! LOL!!!
Alas  the Riv of today pales in comparison to the classy resort it was in the 70s.

    Thursday 17-Aug-2000 12:29:21
Yes Pat  I too am amazed that somehow we never crossed paths.  I usually came up with Terri Browne and her "crew" - four or five of us packed into my folks' big white '69 T-bird  then crammed into a double-double at the hotel.  And talk about disordered sleep patterns!  We'd stay up till four or five  then sleep till around noon.  Very un-vampire-like  I'd then put on my bathing suit and splash around their INCREDIBLE pool for a couple of hours.  I can't tell you how many times the great kosher hotdogs from the outside snack bar were my main meal until showtime!  :)  Then  around 5  we'd start the "ritual" of preparing for the night's shows (yes  that's right  SHOWS - because if you were already there in Vegas  why see just ONE per night?!)  dolling ourselves up  putting on our nice dresses  and so on.  Then down we'd go to line up outside the showroom  trying to figure out just how much we'd have to tip the maitre'd for a really good seat!
It was definitely a fun time of our lives - a little obsessive-compulsive  maybe  but fun!
Hey  anyone from those days - remember "Buck"  TOAD's conga drummer?  He and I would chat each other up at poolside  in the keno lounge  and so on.  I wonder where he is and what he's up to today?

  • Pat
    Re: Re: Re: Time Travel
    Thursday 17-Aug-2000 18:00:12
Wow Robin  we sure travelled similar paths!  Sometimes I drove down and stayed several days and others I flew in for just the weekend.  The only day I ever had time for the pool was the first day--remember the round pool house with the chaise lounges on the roof?  You'd find me up there  when I wasn't jumping off the diving board.  Sadly they are both gone now and I swear that they have shortened that pool.  Wasn't there a giant R made out of blue tiles in the center of the pool back then?  I took a walking tour of the place a few years ago to see what had changed and what remained the same.
Of course I was at both shows!  And those dinner shows...how did we ever sit through a show after eating a full meal?  As much as I disliked that part  it was fun getting to know the people sitting across from you.  To this day I vividly remember some of the people I met at those dinner shows as well as our conversations.  Did those dinner menus ever change?  LOL!!!
I guess it just took me longer to get ready for those shows than it did you and your friends.  LOL!!!  I always wore long dresses to the show--a different one to each.  I still have some of my favorites in storage.  It was great that halter dresses and spaghetti straps were such the rage because those shows back then were a real work out--all the clapping and singing along.  I can't remember the name of the maitre'd though.  He was such a charming man and never made me stand in line. :)  Oh what great days those were!
And dear  sweet Buck…I really miss him.  We were great friends.  Sadly  Buck passed away in 1988.  Eventually I'll be adding some of the old photos to the site and he'll be in quite a few of them.  Please feel free to submit some of your photos from back in the day too!

Promo Record
Thursday  3-Aug-2000 00:51:39
I have recently picked up a promo record of TOAD. I thought I had all of the records they made  but when I came across this one I was very happy because it was something different I haven't heard them sing. I was not sure what year it was made. The song is called  "You Can Be More Than You Are" to promote jobs and the flip side is Tony  Joyce and Telma talking to people about going back to school to be what they want to be. Does anybody know what year this was made? Has anybody ever heard of this before? It also has a nice cover of TOAD. Please  if anyone knows anything about this record please let me know. I love the song. I do love everything they do  they sound so good together. I am a true fan of TOAD.  Thanks for anyone's help.

Dear John,  I have the exact record you are talking about.  I have not thought about that for years.  I just went into my box of Tony memories and there it was.  It is a sound sheet that you could play on the record player if you placed a coin on it if it slips.  From what I remember  I may be wrong  there may have been a commerical back in 75-77? and if you called they mailed you this.  I dont have the cover or what it came in.  But more than likely I think that was the time  because I was a diehard morning  noon and night Tony fan and 13 at the time  so whatever I could get my hands on I did.  I hope this helps you.  I will dig a little more.
